Lions to Compete Against Top Competition at Florida Relays

SLU Ready for Nation's Best in Sunshine State

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Southeastern Louisiana track team continues the outdoor season Thursday-Saturday when they compete in the Pepsi Florida Relays at James G. Pressley Stadium hosted by the University of Florida.
 
The 106-team field features 10 Top 25 teams on the men's side including Alabama (3rd), Florida (4th), Georgia (10th), Florida State (11th), Kentucky (18th), Indiana (19th), Tennessee (20th), Iowa (22nd), North Carolina A&T (24th) and South Carolina (25th).
 
On the women's side, seven Top 25 teams are featured including Florida State (10th), Alabama (12th), Tennessee (16th), Virginia Tech (18th), Iowa (23rd) and Georgia Tech (25th).
 
SLU's Donovan Storr, ranked eighth in the Southland in the men's 400m, will compete against the nation's best. The event features the top three times in the nation led by Rutgers' Izaiah Brown (45.92) while teammate Taj Burgess is second (46.05). Dwight St. Hillaire of Kentucky is third (46.06).
 
Also for the men, the Southeastern 4x100 relay team of Devin Dixon, Jebarri Cumberbatch, Jaysen Robinson and Storr will be in action. Florida holds the nation's best time (38.74) posted by the team of Raymond Ekevwo, Hakim Sani Brown, Grant Holloway and Ryan Clark.
 
For the women, Southland Conference Indoor Shot Put champion Ashley Davis looks to continue her move up the ranks. The junior is second in the Southland and 22nd in the nation with a mark of 50 feet, 5.5 inches (15.38m). The event is headlined by the national leader, Tennessee's Stamatia Scarvelis.
 
SLU's Jamira Patterson, the Southland leader in the 400m hurdles (1:01.22), will be in action against Kentucky's Faith Ross (ranked second nationally).
 
"This is the best meet we will be in all year," said Mistretta. "This is one of the premiere events of the year outside of the (NCAA) regionals. I'm excited to see about where we are as a whole and how our relay teams fare. It's all about just making sure we get better for the conference championship."
