LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's and women's track & field teams continued the NCAA East First Round at the University of Kentucky Outdoor Track & Field Facility Thursday.
Onyah Favour finished first in the women's 400-meter dash preliminary. The junior posted a school-record time of 50.56 seconds, breaking the program record in back-to-back meets. Entering the meet, Favour's previous best was 51.25 seconds.
The sprinter's 50.56-second time put her ahead of the personal best of Tennessee's Javonya Valcourt by 0.01 seconds. Her time of 50.56 seconds in the 400-meter dash is the ninth-best time among all NCAA Division I student-athletes this season.
In the 200-meter dash preliminary, Favour placed 37
th in a race of 46 competitors with a time of 23.74.
The junior will be running in the second heat of the 400-meter dash quarterfinals Saturday, seeking a top-three finish in the heat or one of the next six best times that would punch her ticket to the NCAA Outdoor National Championships.
On Friday,
Donald Butler will compete in Day 3 of the NCAA East First Round, beginning the high jump at 2 p.m. EDT. On Saturday, Favour will be back in action at 6:50 p.m. EDT in the 400-meter dash quarterfinals. Friday and Saturday's events will continue to be televised on ESPN+ with a start time of 5 p.m. CDT.
