Onyah Favour Advances to NCAA National Championships Finals

Favour is set to compete in the 400-meter dash finals for the first time in her career Saturday

EUGENE, Ore. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's and women's track & field teams were represented by Onyah Favour in the 400-meter dash semifinals of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field Thursday.

Favour kept her incredible season alive with an eighth-place finish in the 400-meter dash semifinals on the first day of women's events in Eugene. The junior clocked a 51.00 time to notch a spot in Saturday's finals.

Racing in the third heat of the preliminaries, the Lion placed third in her section, missing out on a top-two spot that would have automatically qualified her for the finals. However, Favour recorded one of the top-three times outside of the top-two finishers in each heat, ending the semifinals in eighth to reach the finals.

Favour will make an appearance in the finals for the first time in her collegiate career. As a sophomore in 2025, she ended the semifinals in 16th (52.39), improving both her place and her performance in 2026.

Favour is the only Southland Conference runner remaining in the 400-meter dash, and the only sprinter outside of the Power 4 to compete in the finals. Of the final nine competitors in the race, the Southeastern Conference has four, while the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Big 12 Conference combine for four.

The Southeastern Lion becomes the first SLU student-athlete to compete in the NCAA Outdoor National Championships finals since Slavko Stevic in 2023, who placed fourth in the high jump.

The women's 400-meter dash finals are set to begin at 6:02 p.m. PDT (8:02 p.m. CDT) Saturday. The NCAA Outdoor National Championships are televised on ESPN2, starting at 7 p.m. CDT.
