SLU Ready for Two League Matches in Beaumont

Lions face UIW on Saturday at 3 p.m., AMCC on Sunday at noon in Southland makeup matches

3/21/2019 8:42:00 AM

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's tennis team will continue Southland Conference play this week, facing Incarnate Word and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in neutral-site matches in Beaumont, Texas.

Both of this week's matches were rescheduled after inclement weather forced the postponement of the originally scheduled matches. League rules mandate that postponed matches be replayed at a neutral site.

Southeastern (4-7, 1-2 Southland) opens the week's action on Saturday, facing UIW (4-8, 0-4 Southland) at 3 p.m. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (9-3, 2-1 Southland) awaits on Sunday at noon.

Southeastern will look to bounce back from a 6-1 loss last Saturday to McNeese. The Lions won the doubles point, but the Cowgirls bounced back to sweep singles play.

The Lions are led in singles play by Putri Insani (5-3, 2-1 Southland). Insani is one of two SLU players with winning singles marks this spring, along with Ceci Mercier (4-3, 1-2 Southland).

Southeastern comes into this week's action with a 7-1 record in conference doubles matches. The pairs of Insani and Ximena Yanez (5-2, 3-0 Southland), Mercier and Vicky Scholz (3-0, 3-0 Southland), as well as Flory Bierma and Katya Cornejo (3-6, 1-1 Southland) have all been effective in league play.

UIW heads to Beaumont looking to snap a four-match losing skid. Jelena Dordan (5-6, 1-3 Southland) leads the Cards in singles wins and has teamed with Sara Djurdjevic (5-2, 2-1 Southland) for the team's best doubles mark.

Mariya Shumeika (10-2, 3-0 Southland) leads the Islanders on the singles courts. In doubles play, she and Carolina Bulatovic have a team-best 5-4 dual match record on No. 1.

Following this week's action, Southeastern will be back on the road next weekend, facing Central Arkansas on Friday, March 29 at 1 p.m.
