HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana track team opened the outdoor portion of the schedule with a dominant performance Saturday at the Strawberry Relays at Southeastern Track Complex.

The SLU women swept the 100 and 200m races taking the top four finishes in both races led by Taylor Mumford. The sophomore from New Orleans, Louisiana won both the 100m (12.03) and 200m (24.90), both were personal bests. Teammates Aareion Jackson, Jaslyn Bowman and Destinee Jeanpierre finished second, third and fourth in the 100m.

In the 200m, Jeanpierre took second behind Mumford while Bowman was third followed by Maya Jackson in fourth and Daijah Nickelson fifth.

Jamira Patterson, a freshman from Kileen, Texas, won the women's 400m hurdle by over five seconds with a 1:01.22.

The men's relays teams turned in a dominant performance as well. The 4x400 team of James Benson II, Gerald Coleman, Jebarri Cumberbatch and Craig Rock blew away the field by over 15 seconds finishing at 3:22.31. Benson, a freshman from Charleston, Illinois, also finished second in the 400m.

In the 4x100, the team of Donovan Storr, Devin Dixon, Jaysen Robinson and Cumberbatch won by over a second finishing with a 41.16. Storr (21.57) and Dixon took also took the top two spots in the men's 200m race.

Southeastern also made their presence felt in the distance runs. Tara Stuntz won the women's 5000m by over 14 seconds while Zach Barthel won the men's 5000m finishing at 16:11.70.

In the field events, SLU won the men's and women's discus throw (Tomas Nedow and Alexia Stein), men's and women's shot put (Stevon Crooks and Ashley Davis), men's long jump (Jaysen Robinson), women's javelin (Charlotte Wissing), men's pole vault (Devin King) and the men's and women's hammer throw (Cole Belkwell and Grace Walford).

"Running a meet this fast after the indoor conference championships is extremely difficult," said second-year SLU track head coach Corey Mistretta. "We decided to train through this meet and next week at McNeese, so the group was a little rundown. In spite of this we performed fairly well, including some surprising PB's. On the heels of our success at the conference championships both the men and women have a different energy in the way they have been approaching their training. Hopefully they can remain focused moving forward. But it's always nice to perform in front of our home fans. Also, recognizing our seniors today for the many sacrifices they have made in Southeastern's name is extremely important to the culture we are trying to build."

Southeastern will be back in action Saturday, March 9 at the Bob Hayes Invitational in Lake Charles, Louisiana hosted by McNeese.
