HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's tennis team will open up Southland Conference play this week, hosting a pair of league foes at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
SLU (3-5) will welcome Abilene Christian (4-7) to Hammond for a 1 p.m. contest on Friday. On Sunday, Incarnate Word (4-4) comes to town for an 11 a.m. league match.
Southeastern will be returning home after a six-match road swing that took up the month of February. The Lions have had a week off from competition since a trip to the West Coast that saw it drop competitive matches to Santa Clara and Cal State-Northridge.
Ceci Mercier and
Putri Insani lead Southeastern with three singles wins apiece this spring, while
Flory Bierma and
Katya Cornejo have two singles wins to their credit.
Three SLU doubles teams all have multiple wins in 2019. Insani and
Ximena Yanez have handled duties on the No. 1 court, while Bierma and Cornejo have been predominantly the No. 2 team.
Bernadette Dornieden and
Himani Mor round out the doubles lineup.
Abilene Christian is led by Jordan Henry (6-4) in singles play. The Wildcats' top doubles team is Sarah Adams and Nini Memishisi (4-3). Last season in Hammond, ACU earned a 6-1 victory over the Lions.
UIW, which plays at McNeese on Friday, comes to Louisiana riding a four-match winning streak. Jelena Dordan leads the Cardinals in singles victories, while Brandelyn Fulgenz and Victoria Kareh make up Incarnate Word's top doubles team.
This week's action opens up a stretch of five straight league matches for SLU. Next Friday, Southeastern opens its road schedule with a 2 p.m. match at Lamar in Beaumont, Texas.
