Box Score ABILENE, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana's
Charliee Dugas poured in a game-high 26 points, but a balanced Abilene Christian attack was too much for the Lady Lions to overcome in an 86-66 Southland Conference loss Saturday afternoon at Moody Coliseum.
Abilene Christian (17-8, 10-4 Southland) beat Southeastern for the first time in the last three meetings thanks in large part to a 56.0 percent (28-for-50) success rate from the field, including an efficient 12-for-23 performance from behind the arc.
Though not totally eliminated, SLU (9-17, 4-11 Southland) had its postseason hopes dimmed with Saturday's loss. The Lady Lions have dropped five in a row heading into the final three games of the regular season and are two games out of the final spot in next month's league tournament, schedule for March 14-17 at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas.
Dugas led all scorers with a season-high scoring total and was joined in double figures by
Jaclyn Scholvin, who finished with 10 points.
Caitlyn Williams added nine points to go with a team-high six rebounds, while Scholvin and
Ashailee Brailey each dished out three assists. Dugas paced the Lady Lions with three steals.
Brailey also made the 97
th three of her Southeastern career, moving her into a tie with former Lady Lion Peaches Anderson (2013-16) for 10
th place on the school's career three-point field goal leaderboard.
Dominique Golightly led four Wildcats in double figures with 19 points, while Lexie Ducat (18 points), Breanna Wright (15 points) and Sara Williamson (11 points) contributed to the Wildcats' prolific performance. Ducat grabbed a game-high seven rebounds, while Williamson led all players with eight assists.
ACU started the game off on fire from behind the arc to put SLU in an early hole. The Wildcats drilled five of six three-point attempts in the opening period to take a 26-14 lead. In the second quarter, Ducat scored nine of ACU's 15 points to help Abilene Christian go into halftime with a 41-24 advantage.
Dugas sank a pair of free throws to open the second half to cut the lead to 15, but Wright responded with back-to-back threes to stretch the lead to 21. ACU would stretch its advantage to as much as 25, but the Lady Lions would slowly whittle away at the Wildcat lead.
A jumper by
Caitlyn Williams capped an 8-0 SLU run that cut the lead to 65-52 with 8:30 left. However, ACU would answer with a game-clinching 12-4 run that Williamson capped with a steal and layup to pad the Wildcat cushion to 77-56 with 4:40 left. Southeastern would get no closer than 20 the rest of the way.
