HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team will be back on the road on Saturday, traveling to Abilene Christian for a 1 p.m. Southland Conference contest at Moody Coliseum.

The contest between Southeastern (9-16, 4-10 Southland) and ACU (16-8, 9-4 Southland) will serve as the opening of a doubleheader on Saturday, as the SLU and Abilene Christian men's teams will meet at 3:30 p.m. Both games will air on ESPN3.

The Lady Lions have some work to do if they are going to return to the postseason, as their current four-game losing skid has moved them two games out of eighth place in the league standings with four games remaining. The top eight teams will advance to the Southland Conference Tournament, scheduled for March 14-17 at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas.

SLU will be looking to bounce back from a tough 61-58 loss to New Orleans on Wednesday in the Play4Kay game in the University Center. UNO used a game-closing 7-0 run to rally past Southeastern.

Celica Sterling and Charliee Dugas shared the team lead with 15 points in Wednesday's game, while Caitlyn Williams added 12 points. Dugas just missed a double-double with a career-high-tying nine rebounds, while Jaclyn Scholvin dished out a game-high six assists.

Sterling (14.6 ppg), Scholvin (10.0 ppg), Dugas (9.5 ppg) and Caitlyn Williams (7.8 ppg) are the top scorers for a Southeastern team that is averaging 57.3 points per game. ACU counters by averaging 73.5 points per outing, behind the quartet of Dominique Golightly (14.0 ppg), Breanna Wright (13.6 ppg), Sara Williamson (12.8 ppg) and Lexie Ducat (10.7 ppg).

Caitlyn Williams is the top rebounder for either team, ranking fifth in the Southland with 7.0 rebounds per game. However, the Wildcats have a league-best plus-7.3 rebounding margin behind the duo of Ducat (6.6 rpg) and Makayla Mabry (6.4 rpg).

Both teams have been solid defensively for the most part in 2018-19, as Southeastern is allowing 65.2 points and forcing 17.3 turnovers per game, while ACU is yielding 63.2 points and causing 16.3 turnovers per outing. Scholvin leads SLU with 44 steals, while Williamson's season total of 40 swipes paces Abilene Christian. Williamson also has a team-high 28 blocked shots, while Caitlyn Williams leads SLU with 20.

Saturday's game will be the 11th all-time meeting between the two schools. Abilene Christian holds a 7-3 advantage in the all-time series, however, SLU has won the last two meetings.

Back on Jan. 12, Southeastern rode a season-best 52.0 percent (26-for-50) success rate from the field to a 74-71 win over the Wildcats in Hammond. Sterling led SLU with 21 points and was joined in double figures by Kyla Williams (11 points), Dugas (10 points) and Scholvin (10 points). Caitlyn Williams and Morgan Carrier chipped in with nine points each, while Tyler Morrison posted a game-high seven assists and four steals.

ACU featured a balanced attack in the first meeting. Wright led Abilene Christian with 20 points, while Ducat (16 points), Golightly (13 points) and Williamson (10 points) also contributed double-digit scoring outputs.

Following Saturday's game, Southeastern will have a bye before closing out its 2018-19 home schedule on Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m. versus Northwestern State in the University Center. The SLU-NSU contest, along with the 4 p.m. men's game between the Lions and Demons, will be broadcast by the Southeastern Channel via the Southland Digital Network. Visit www.Southland.org/live or download the Southland Conference app, available for iPhone, Android, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Roku to watch.

The Lady Lions-Lady Demons tilt can also be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9), online at www.LionSports.net/listenlive and via the Lions Game Day Experience, TuneIn Radio and Radio FX apps.

Next Saturday will be Senior Day in the University Center. Before the Lady Lions and Lady Demons tip-off, the senior class of Scholvin, Ashailee Brailey, Kyla Williams and Rhomyia Tate will be recognized.
