MATTHEWS, La – The Southeastern Louisiana men's golf team will play in the LaTour Intercollegiate Tournament at the LaTour Gulf Club Monday at 8 a.m.
Â
The field includes SLU, host Nicholls, Central Arkansas, Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word, Mobile, New Orleans, North Dakota, Prairie View A&M, Samford, Stephen F. Austin and UT-Rio Grande Valley.
Â
LaTour Golf Club is a 7,170-yard Par 72 located just outside of Thibodeaux, Louisiana.
Â
SLU's will be represented by
Joris Etlin, Kris Kerr,
Logan Kuehn,
Bailey Smith and
Miller Maestri.
Â
Etlin, a Frejus, France native, leads the Lions with a 73.45 scoring average. The senior has recorded five rounds of even par or lower including a season-low 70 (-1) in the first round of the Sam Hall Intercollegiate in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Sept. 17.
Â
Kerr, a sophomore, is second in scoring average, 74.64. The Loranger, Louisiana native, finished second at the Battle of the Big Easy tournament Sept. 11.
Â
Maestri has recorded the lowest round of the year thus far for the Lions. The sophomore from Baton Rouge, Louisiana turned in a 67 (-4) in the final round of Sam Hall.
Â
The Lions had the final round of the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate postponed Oct. 16 in Ruston, Louisiana, which allowed SLU to play an extra round two weeks at LaTour.
Â
SLU finished second in the one-day event led by Etlin and Smith each shooting a 74 (+2).
Â
The weather, again, is expected to play a factor Monday. The forecast predicts rain, with a high of 52 degrees and 15-20 mph winds.
Â
"We're extremely excited about getting out there," said SLU golf head coach
Jake Narro. "The weather is going to be rough. Cold, wet and rainy, not exactly the ideal playing conditions but that gives us an opportunity to go grind it out and have a good finish."
Â
Each team will play 36 holes Monday with the tournament concluding Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. where the teams will play 18 holes.
