BOSTON, Mass. – Sophie Daigle (3000m) and
Grant O'Callaghan (one-mile) broke school records for the Southeastern Louisiana track team Friday and Saturday at the David Hemery Valentine Indoor Invitational at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center.
Daigle, a sophomore from Donaldsonville, Louisiana, ran a 10:14.24 in the 3000m. The Ascension Catholic grad's previous personal best was 10:33.44 at the Southland Indoor Championships in 2018.
"Sophie continues to improve," said second-year SLU track head coach
Corey Mistretta. "If she continues to stay positive and work hard she will do very well in Birmingham (Southland Conference Indoor Championship) at the end of the month."
O'Callaghan, a Flowery Branch, Georgia native, finished first in his section and crossed the line with a school record 4:07.34 in the one-mile.
"Grant's performance was outstanding," said Mistretta. "He has been training very well and he is beginning to reap the benefits. We are super excited for where he is heading into the conference championships."
Reed Callegan (800m),
Anthony Cordero (3000m), Sean Singh (800m), and
Bryant White (3000m) each finished with personal bests to add to the record-setting weekend.
"This group did as well as can be expected," said Mistretta. "(SLU Assistant Coach
Rocky Capello) knew his group was ready to run well and they didn't disappoint with two school records and seven new personal best. Overall this weekend has been very encouraging. We will get back to work this week for the full squad meet (at LSU). This will give us one last chance to look at our group in competition to see if anyone stands out who might be able to help us at the conference championships at the end of the month."
SLU's next full squad meet will be Friday, Feb. 15 at the LSU Twilight in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
