Southeastern Closes Nonconference Play at Alabama

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team will close out the nonconference portion of its 2019-20 schedule on Sunday, traveling to face Alabama at 2 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum.
 
The game between the Lady Lions (4-6) and the host Crimson Tide (9-3) will be televised on SEC Network+.
 
Southeastern is coming off a 69-59 victory over Houston Baptist last Saturday. The Lady Lions were led by Caitlyn Williams, who posted her first double-double of the season with career-high totals of 28 points and 16 rebounds.
 
Williams' career night was supported by Jyar Francis and Celica Sterling, who chipped in with 16 and 13 points, respectively. Tyler Morrison led SLU with four assists.
 
Southeastern heads into Sunday's contest averaging 64.2 points per game. Sterling leads the team and ranks fourth in the Southland with 13.9 points per game. The other top scorers for SLU are Francis (11.3 ppg), Williams (7.9 ppg), Charliee Dugas (7.8 ppg), Alexius Horne (7.7 ppg) and Morgan Carrier (7.5 ppg).
 
Horne also is seventh in the league with a team-high 3.1 assists per contest. Southeastern is fourth in the conference with 59 three-point field goals, as Sterling (6th), Francis (13th) and Carrier (14th) are among the Southland's most prolific long range shooters.
 
The Lady Lions outrebounded HBU, 45-34, and enters Sunday's contest with a minus-2.1 rebounding margin. Coming off back-to-back double-digit rebounding efforts, Williams has climbed to ninth in the Southland with 6.7 rebounds per contest.
Opponents are averaging 65.6 points and 18.7 turnovers per game versus Southeastern. Williams and Aminat Jubril each have a team-high eight blocked shots, while Horne has 18 steals to pace the squad.
 
Alabama carries a four-game winning streak into Southeastern's visit on Sunday. The Crimson Tide closed out its pre-Christmas schedule with an 85-51 victory over Radford on Dec. 20.
 
Jordan Lewis (12.6 ppg) and Jasmine Walker (10.3 ppg) are the leading scorers for an Alabama team that is averaging 74.1 points per game, while Lewis also leads UA with 3.1 assists per game.
 
Walker also doubles as the Crimson Tide's leading rebounder with 6.8 rebounds per outing, as Alabama carries a plus-8.5 rebounding margin.
 
Alabama is allowing 61.1 points and forcing 15.0 turnovers per contest. Ashley Knight has a team-high 26 blocked shots, while Lewis and Cierra Johnson share the top spot on the squad with 19 steals each.
 
Alabama leads the all-time series, 9-2. The Crimson Tide earned an 88-40 victory over the Lady Lions in the 2018-19 season opener.
