HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team will host defending Southland Conference champion Lamar to open Southland Conference play on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the University Center.

Wednesday is also a Cane's Challenge. If the Lady Lions score 60 or more points, fans can redeem their game ticket or student coupons by the end of business on Thursday at their local participating Raising Cane's to receive a free combo with the purchase of another of equal or greater value.
Alexius Horne and
Sydney Rivers will be Wednesday's Spotlight Players of the Game. The first 150 fans will receive trading cards featuring the duo courtesy of PRIDE.
Southeastern saw its three-game winning streak snapped at Louisiana Tech last Friday, as the Lady Techsters outgunned the visitors, 92-78, in Ruston.
Charliee Dugas and
Celica Sterling shared game-high honors with 17 points apiece for SLU in the loss, while
Breonca Ducksworth and
Jyar Francis added 11 points each off the bench for the Lady Lions.
Southeastern is averaging 64.5 points per game heading into the conference opener. Sterling (14.6 ppg), Francis (12.0 ppg), Dugas (8.6 ppg),
Morgan Carrier (7.9 ppg) and Horne (7.7 ppg) are the top scorers for the Lady Lions. Horne also leads the squad with 3.7 assists per outing.
Much of Southeastern's scoring output is coming from behind the arc. Sterling (19), Carrier (12) and Francis (11) each have double-digit three-point field goals thus far in 2019-20.
On the glass, SLU has been out-rebounded by 3.5 rebounds per game.
Aminat Jubril leads Southeastern with 5.5 rebounds per game, while
Caitlyn Williams (4.6 rpg) and Francis (4.5 rpg) are also effective on the boards.
Opponents are scoring 66.5 points and committing 18.5 turnovers per contest versus the Lady Lions. Sterling leads SLU with 15 steals, while Jubril has blocked a team-high six blocked shots.
Lamar has won its last two contests heading into league play, having defeated LeTourneau, 90-38, and Denver, 71-59. The Cardinals also have wins over Idaho and Howard Payne to their credit. LU has losses to Oklahoma State, North Carolina State, Baylor, UL Lafayette and Cal Poly.
The trio of Amber Vidal (11.9 ppg), Angel Hastings (11.2 ppg) and Jadyn Pimentel (10.4 ppg) gives Lamar a trio averaging in double figures. Briana Laidler paces the team with 7.0 rebounds per game, while Kayla Mitchell acts as the team's top playmaker, averaging just under three assists per outing.
Southeastern is 22-19 all-time versus Lamar. The Cardinals have won the last three meetings, including a 94-54 victory in January in Beaumont.
The Lady Lions are 5-17 all-time in Southland Conference openers. SLU has opened the last three seasons with a loss in the league opener and last won its first conference game, 65-56, over Stephen F. Austin in 2015-16.
