HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team will continue its season-opening five-game road swing on Wednesday, traveling to Southern Miss for a 6 p.m. contest in Reed Green Coliseum.

The game between the Lady Lions (0-1) and the host Golden Eagles (1-1) will be streamed live on CUSAtv.com (paid subscription required). The contest will also be heard live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and online at www.LionSports.net/listenlive. Live stats, provided by USM, can also be accessed on the women's basketball schedule page at www.LionSports.net.

Southeastern is looking to pick up its first victory of 2019-20. In the season opener, the Lady Lions could not overcome 30 turnovers and 22 opposing offensive rebounds in a 78-65 loss at Houston last Saturday.

Despite the loss, SLU can take plenty of positives from a balanced performance versus the Cougars that saw 10 different Lady Lions find the net. Southeastern's top two returning scorers from 2018-19 reprised their roles in the 2019-20 debut. Celica Sterling led the scoring ledger for Southeastern with 17 points, while Charliee Dugas joined her in double figures with 11 points.

In her first career start as a Lady Lion, Aminat Jubril led SLU on the glass, finishing with 12 rebounds. The newcomer backcourt duo of Breonca Ducksworth and Alexius Horne share the team lead with three assists. Dugas helped Southeastern force Houston into 20 turnovers, finishing with a team-high three steals.

Southeastern will be facing a Southern Miss team that opened the season with a 77-47 home win over crosstown foe William Carey last Tuesday. On Saturday, No. 10 Mississippi State handed USM a 91-58 defeat in Starkville.

Shonte Hailes leads Southern Miss with 14.5 points per game, while Kelsey Jones joins her in double figures at 10.0 points per game. USM heads into Wednesday's nonconference meeting with a minus-10.5 rebounding margin, though Kelsey Jones has 5.0 rebounds per outing.

Daishai Almond has been the top distributor for USM, averaging 3.0 assists per game. Almond's 3.0 steals per contest also paces the Golden Eagle defensive effort, as opponents are committing 26.5 turnovers per game versus Southern Miss.

Southeastern is 5-6 all-time versus Southern Miss. The Lady Lions will be looking to avenge a 59-52 loss to USM last December in Hammond.

SLU led by as many as 12 in the third quarter of last season's defeat, but USM outscored Southeastern, 27-9, in the fourth quarter to rally for the win. Sterling was the lone Lady Lion in double figures with 10 points, while Jones came off the bench with 17 points to lead Southern Miss.
