Event Schedule

LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana track team will open their indoor schedule at the McNeese Indoor Invitational Friday at McNeese State Recreational Complex.

SLU will send 43 to the meet headlined by D.J. Ruffin for the men and DeKayta Alex and Aareion Jackson for the women.

The meet features SLU, Grambling, Huston-Tillotson, LeTourneau, Loyola-New Orleans, Southern, TAMU-Kingsville, UL-Lafayette, ULM and McNeese.

Ruffin, a Gauthier, Mississippi native, will compete in the long jump at 3 p.m. The senior holds the record for the McNeese Invitational jumping 25 feet (7.62m) in 2017.

Alex, a senior from Natchitoches, Louisiana, anchors a talented group of sprinters. The 2017 second team All-Southland indoor 400m selection will race at 5:30 p.m. in the 400m preliminaries. The Natchitoches Central grad looks to add her resume which includes being named Southland Female Track Athlete of the Week on Jan. 11, 2017.

Jackson will race at 4:30 p.m. in the 55m and 6 p.m. in the 200m. The senior from Metairie, Louisiana captured the 200m title at the 2018 LSU Indoor Twilight.

Grant O'Callaghan, the Flowery Branch, Georgia native, will look to defend his title in the 3000m for the Lions at 7:05 p.m. The junior had a great fall, finishing in the top eight in all five cross country races. He is coming off a fourth place finish at the Southland Conference Indoor Championships Feb. 21 in the 3000m.

"We're extremely excited to open up with full squad against some really good competition," said second-year SLU track head coach Corey Mistretta.
