HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's basketball team will get an early start on Saturday, facing McNeese at 11 a.m. at the new H&HP Complex in Lake Charles.

The Lady Lions (7-8, 2-2 Southland) and Cowgirls (3-13, 1-4 Southland) will open a Southland Conference doubleheader on Saturday. The SLU and McNeese men's teams will meet in the nightcap at 1:30 p.m.

Both Southeastern and host McNeese saw a reversal of early season fortunes in Wednesday's action. The Lady Lions had their two-game winning streak stopped in a 94-54 loss to Lamar, while the Cowgirls snapped a five-game losing skid with a 69-68 road win at Nicholls.

Saturday's matinee will feature the two most prolific three-point shooters in the Southland Conference. Southeastern's Celica Sterling and Hammond native Regan Bolton of McNeese are tied for the league lead with 45 three-point field goals apiece.

The Lady Lions, who are led by Sterling's 15.9 points per game, will be looking to take advantage of a McNeese defense that allows 79.6 points per outing. Jaclyn Scholvin (9.3 ppg), Caitlyn Williams (7.3 ppg) and Charliee Dugas (6.8 ppg) are the other top scorers for SLU. Scholvin and Tyler Morrison are tied for ninth in the Southland with 3.4 assists per game.

McNeese averages 61.6 points per game and will be facing a Lady Lion squad that yields 63.1 points and causes 18.4 turnovers per outing. The Cowgirls are led by the trio of Callie Maddox (12.6 ppg), Bolton (11.3 ppg) and Bre'Ashlee Jones (10.0 ppg). Scholvin and Morrison lead SLU with 30 and 29 steals, respectively.

Another key to Saturday's contest will be the rebounding battle, as McNeese features two of the top five rebounders in the Southland in Damilola Balogun (7.6 rpg, 3rd) and Divine Tanks (7.3 rpg, 5th). Caitlyn Williams paces SLU and ranks 10th in the league with 6.5 boards per contest.

The longtime rivals will be meeting for the 67th time on Saturday with McNeese holding a 36-30 advantage in the all-time series. The Cowgirls have won the last eight meetings and SLU's last win was an 82-65 victory in Lake Charles in the 2013-14 conference opener.

Southeastern returns home on Wednesday to host Houston Baptist at 7 p.m. in the University Center. In conjunction with the contest, Southeastern Athletics Student Marketing and Promotions and the SLU Student Government Association (SGA) will partner to host a Back to School tailgate outside of the UC before Wednesday's game. Once inside, students will be able to enjoy other interactive games and promotions while cheering on the Lady Lions.

Kyla Williams is Wednesday's Spotlight Player of the Game. The first 150 fans will receive a trading card featuring the New Orleans, Louisiana native courtesy of PRIDE.

Wednesday will also feature a Cane's Challenge at the UC. If the Lady Lions score 50 or more points, fans can take their game tickets or student coupons to their local participating Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers to receive a free combo with the purchase of another of equal or greater value.

LionVision suscribers will be able to access a live video stream of the SLU-HBU contest at www.LionVision/watch.
