CONWAY, Ark. – Southeastern Louisiana sophomore Ximena Yanez and freshman Putri Insani won the top doubles flight to highlight the SLU tennis team's efforts at this week's UCA Fall Classic, hosted by Central Arkansas.

The tournament was abbreviated due to inclement weather in the Conway area. The doubles flights were played to completion, but singles flights were stopped before the finals.

Southeastern head coach Jason Hayes was pleased with his team's efforts in the second fall tournament of the 2018-19 campaign.

"Overall I was very pleased with our play against a very good field," Hayes commented. "We had some standout individual performances this weekend, but even the ones who didn't have the results in their favor did good things that we can build on. This weekend was a definite step forward for us."

Yanez and Insani continue their undefeated start to the fall in doubles play. In the opening round, they defeated the Missouri State due of Alye Dater and Ellie Burger, 6-2.

The ULM pair of Shivanni Manjana and Florencia Salerno were the next pair to fall to SLU's top duo, as the Lions advanced with a 6-4 win. In the final, Yanez and Insani blanked UMKC's Thea Dassy and Yana Grechkina, 6-0.

In singles play, SLU junior Himani Mor and sophomore Katya Cornejo each advanced to the finals of their respective singles flights. Mor defeated Arkansas State's Berta Masdevall-Masip, 6-2, 6-0, before rallying past Teona Velkovska of Southeast Missouri, 0-6, 6-0, 10-6.

Cornejo picked up a pair of 6-1, 6-0 victories against SEMO's Grace Powderly and Alexia Meyer of Missouri State.

Southeastern will return to action when it heads to Pensacola, Florida to compete in the West Florida Invitational, which runs Oct. 5-7.

"We need to continue to increase our aggressiveness in doubles play every time out," Hayes said. "We want to better our condition in singles play and we're going to continue to work hard in these two weeks to be ready for West Florida."
