Lions Host Jackson State, Travel to UL Lafayette in Midweek Contests

HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana faces its final five-game week of the season, hosting Jackson State at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field at 6 p.m. Tuesday and traveling to UL Lafayette for its final non-conference road game of the season Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
 
The Southeastern Digital Network, powered by a Southeastern Channel production, will offer a free video stream of the Lions (24-11) Tuesday game against Jackson State (20-11).
 
Cox Sports TV will broadcast Wednesday's game against UL Lafayette (15-17) from M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park. Viewers outside of CST's coverage area can watch the game on ESPN3.
 
Both games can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 FM, and worldwide online or through either the Radio FX or TuneIn apps. Fans can also keep up with all the action through live statistics or by following @SLUathletics on Twitter. Cody Grosse (.324), Mike Taylor (.315), Drew Avans (.310) and Daniel Wasinger (.297) pace Southeastern's offensive attack. Avans leads the team with six home runs and a conference-high 17 stolen bases. Kyle Schimpf's 32 RBI lead the Southland.
 
The Lions are hitting .251 collectively, with 50 doubles, eight triples and 24 home runs. Their 94 stolen bases rank second nationally. Southeastern's pitching staff, which has compiled a 3.56 ERA, has struck out 274 batters through 313.2 innings of work and issued the third-fewest walks per game (2.61) in the nation. Opponents are hitting .237 off Lion pitching.
 
Southeastern took a pair from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi over the weekend, while Jackson State swept a three-game series from SWAC foe Alabama A&M.
 
Raul Hernandez (.408), Wesley Reyes (.352), Dezmond Chumley (.347), Jesus Santana (.347) and Stephan Vidal (.330) lead a potent Tiger offense. Santana's seven home runs and 32 RBI are tops on the team. Jarvis Warne has swiped a team-leading 17 bases.
 
Jackson State is hitting .303 as a team, with 64 doubles, six triples, 28 home runs and 55 stolen bases. Tiger pitching has combined for a 4.33 ERA and 210 strikeouts in 266.1 innings pitched. Opponents are hitting .261 of Jackson State pitching.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns, who host McNeese Tuesday evening, had a three-game winning streak snapped Sunday by UT Arlington, falling 4-2 to the Mavericks in 10 innings.
 
Daniel Lahare (.295), Gavin Bourgeois (.287) and Hayden Cantrelle (.256) are UL Lafayette's top hitters. Hunter Kasuls and Kennon Fontenot have each hit a pair of home runs, while Kasuls also leads the team with 23 RBI. Bourgeois' nine stolen bases are a team high.
 
UL Lafayette is hitting .222 collectively, with 43 doubles, eight triples, seven home runs and 33 stolen bases. Ragin Cajun pitchers have worked to a 3.76 ERA, striking out 245 batters in 287.1 innings. Opponents are hitting .244 off UL Lafayette pitching.
 
Southeastern returns to Southland Conference play at 6:30 p.m. Friday with the opener of a three-game series at Northwestern State.

General Admission tickets are $9 for adults and $6 for children (ages 3-12). Tax is included in the price of admission. Southeastern students are admitted free with a valid university ID card.
