Southeastern Confronts Demons on Friday the 13th

NATCHITOCHES, La. – Southeastern Louisiana, which has dropped a season-high three straight, opens a Southland Conference series Friday at 6;30 p.m. against Northwestern State at Brown-Stroud Field.
 
The series between the Lions (24-13, 11-4 Southland) and the Demons (17-14, 6-6 Southland) continues Saturday at 2 p.m., wrapping up Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
All three games can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 FM, and worldwide online or through either the Radio FX or TuneIn apps. Southeastern senior right-hander Josh Green (5-1, 3.02) opposes Demon junior left-hander Ridge Heisler (3-2, 3.25) in the series opener Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday at 2 p.m., the Lions will send redshirt junior right-hander Carlisle Koestler (5-1, 2.53) to the mound opposite Northwestern State junior righty Jerry Maddox (3-2, 2.34).

Sunday at 1 p.m. Southeastern will counter Demon junior right-hander Nathan Jones (1-3, 3.69) in the series finale with redshirt junior right-hander Kade Granier (2-2, 4.18).
 
Drew Avans (.328), Cody Grosse (.320), Mike Taylor (.299), and Daniel Wasinger (.280) pace Southeastern's offensive attack. Avans leads the team with seven home runs and a conference-high 17 stolen bases. Kyle Schimpf's 33 RBI lead the Southland.
 
The Lions are hitting .248 collectively, with 50 doubles, eight triples and 26 home runs. Their 96 stolen bases rank second nationally. Southeastern's pitching staff, which has compiled a 3.56 ERA, has struck out 291 batters through 333.1 innings of work and issued the fourth-fewest walks per nine (2.57) in the nation. Opponents are hitting .240 off Lion pitching.
 
Southeastern has dropped a season-high three straight games, while the Demons have won four of their last five.
 
Kwan Adkins (.360), David Fry (.352), Luke Watson (.298) and J.P. Lagreco (.297) are Northwestern State's top hitters. Fry leads the team with 13 doubles, five home runs and 25 RBI. Adkins and Caleb Ricca have stolen seven bases apiece to pace the squad.
 
The Demons have combined to hit .269 as a team, with 53 doubles, five triples, 19 home runs and 21 stolen bases. Northwestern State's pitching staff has pitched to a 3.75 ERA and struck out 210 batters in 287.2 innings. Opponents are hitting .257 off Demon pitchers.
 
Southeastern returns home Tuesday, hosting No. 12-ranked Southern Miss for Study Break Night and a Cane's Challenge at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
