HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women's tennis team closed out the fall portion of its 2018-19 schedule with a solid showing at the George E. Fourmaux Fed Cup Invitational.
 
Southeastern finished 2-2 in the tournament, which was held Friday through Sunday at the Southeastern Tennis Complex and the Oak Knoll Country Club.
 
"We had some great tennis played in Hammond this weekend," Southeastern head coach Jason Hayes said. "We're thankful to Oak Knoll Country Club and all the teams that came to town for helping to make this a very competitive event."
 
Putri Insani and Ceci Mercier led SLU with two singles wins apiece, while Flory Bierma, Bernadette Dornieden, Himani Mor and Katya Cornejo each earned singles victories. Insani and Ximeya Yanez teamed for a doubles victory, as did Bierma and Dornieden.
 
"We did some good things this weekend and also had some tough losses that we can learn from," Hayes commend. "Five of the eight teams in this field were from the Southland Conference. This was a great test for us and shows our new players how tough the competition within our league this spring."
 
West Florida won the tournament, which was played using the Fed Cup format of four singles and one doubles match. Following UWF in the standings were McNeese, Lamar, Nicholls, SLU, New Orleans, Louisiana Tech and North Alabama.
 
Hayes was pleased with his team's progress during the fall.
 
"Overall, we had a very good fall and we're a better team now than we were when we got here in August," Hayes said. "We've grown closer as a group and that's going to help us moving forward. We also learned that we still have a lot of work we need to put in to get ready for the spring."
 
This week's tournament will cap the fall portion of Southeastern's 2018-19 schedule. The Lions will open the spring at Tulane on Jan. 27.
