Lions Travel to Second-Place Stephen F. Austin

Weather forces schedule change

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana travels to second-place Stephen F. Austin this weekend for a Southland Conference series at Jaycees Field.

Due to expected inclement weather on Saturday, the teams will play a doubleheader Friday beginning at 2 p.m. and a single game at 1 p.m. Sunday.
 
The Lions (25-15, 12-9 Southland) and SFA (25-18, 13-5 Southland) meet for the first time since April 19-21, 2013. Southeastern leads the all-time series with a 23-17 on-field record.
 
All three games in the conference series can be heard in the Hammond, Louisiana, area on KSLU 90.9 FM, and worldwide online or through the TuneIn Radio app (search for KSLU). Fans can keep up with the game through live statistics or by following @SLUathletics on Twitter.

Friday at 2 p.m., the Lions will send junior right-hander Mac Sceroler (7-1, 2.39) to the mound opposite SFA senior left-hander Patrick Ledet (6-2, 4.06).

Sophomore right-hander Corey Gaconi (3-4, 2.88) gets the starting nod in the doubleheader nightcap versus Lumberjack junior righty Trevor Kiminski (3-2, 4.19).
 
SFA will send junior right-hander Tony Grabowske (4-2, 2-89) out in Sunday's 1 p.m. series finale against Lion sophomore righty Carlisle Koestler (2-2, 4.03).
 
Southeastern is coming off a 21-3 win over Alcorn State in seven innings Tuesday.
 
Taylor Schwaner (.370), Drew Avans (.294), Carson Crites (.287) and Derrick Mount (.280) lead Southeastern at the plate. Schwaner is the conference leader with 12 home runs and ranks fourth nationally with 56 RBIs. Mount is third nationally with eight sacrifice flies. Avans has a team-high 18 stolen bases.
 
The Lions are hitting .247 as a team, with 65 doubles, 16 triples, 39 home runs and 76 stolen bases. Southeastern's pitching staff enters the series with a 3.78 ERA, having fanned 297 batters through 354.1 innings of work. Opponents are hitting .244 off Lion pitching.
 
SFA is coming off a 6-2 win Tuesday at No. 4-ranked TCU.
 
Josh Evans (.412), the Southland's leading hitter, along with Andrew Cole (.356) and Zac Michener (.327) pace the Lumberjack offense. Evans and Michener are tied for the team lead with eight home runs apiece, while Michener is second in the conference with 41 RBIs. Tyler Kendrick has swiped a team-high nine bags.
 
The Lumberjacks are hitting .280 as a team, with 73 doubles, six triples, 27 home runs and 30 stolen bases. SFA pitchers have combined for a 4.25 ERA, fanning 351 batters in 372.1 innings pitched. Opponents are hitting .254 off the Lumberjack pitching staff.
 
Southeastern returns to the road Tuesday, wrapping up its regular-season series with Tulane. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
