MCKINNEY, Texas – Senior Paul Obermann completed his Southeastern Louisiana career with a 10^th place finish at the Southland Conference Championships Wednesday at the Dye Course at Stonebridge Ranch Country Club.

    Obermann shot a final-round 5-over-par 77 to finish at 14-over 230. It was his best finish in four appearances at the Southland Championships and his third top-10 finish of the 2016-17 season.

    Southeastern, second heading into the final round, ended up fifth at 66-over 930 following a final round 31-over 319. McNeese defended its title with a 54-over 918, four shots ahead of Stephen F. Austin, and will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals scheduled for May 15-17.

    "We had opportunities and just couldn't get it done," Southeastern head coach Jake Narro said. "Ultimately, McNeese just out-played us and hats off to them. The weather was a factor all week and we handled it well the first half of the event and didn't handle it as well the second half. We just threw away a few too many shots."

    Sam Houston State was third at 923 and Nicholls fourth at 928. Central Arkansas (938), Houston Baptist (938), Abilene Christian (958), Incarnate Word (988) and New Orleans (989) rounded out the field.

    Nicholls' Albert Badosa-Soler (9-over 225) defeated Houston Baptist's Val Almendarez on the sixth playoff hole to win individual medalist honors and receive a bid to the NCAA Regionals.

    Obermann had four birdies on his day, at the par-5 third, par-3 fifth, par-4 ninth and par-5 16^th.

    Senior James Anstiss came in 14^th at 16-over 232 after shooting a 10-over 82 on Wednesday. His round included birdies at the par-4 11^th, par-5 13^th and the 16^th.

    Sophomore William Meyers shot his third straight 6-over 78 to tie two others for 16^th at 18-over 234. He birdied the third, the par-5 seventh and the par-3 12^th.

    Senior Gustavo Leon, playing in his first conference tournament, tied Central Arkansas' Lewis George for 24^th at 22-over 238. His final-round 10-over 82 was highlighted by birdies on the third, the 12^th and the par-4 14^th.

    Sophomore Joris Etlin shot a 13-over 85 to finish in a three-way tie for 30^th at 24-over 240.

    "It was a good year," Narro said of a season that included a pair of second-place finishes. "It was up and down. We had some good finishes but couldn't quite get it going. I'm a little disappointed right now. I really thought we were in a position to do well. We could have really grabbed this tournament by the throat and have a stranglehold on it. Sometimes it doesn't work out your way and it didn't for us."
