Lions Return to Southland Action at HBU

HOUSTON, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana returns to Southland Conference action this weekend with a three-game series at Houston Baptist.

Games between the Lions (14-6, 5-1 Southland) and HBU (8-11, 0-3 Southland) are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, 1 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at Husky Field.

All three games can be heard in the Hammond, Louisiana, area on KSLU 90.9 FM and worldwide online or through the TuneIn Radio app (search for KSLU). Fans can keep up with the game through live statistics or by following @SLUathletics on Twitter.
A free video stream is also available, courtesy HBU. Links for audio, video and stats can be found on the baseball schedule page at www.LionSports.net.

Coming off a 10-game winning streak, Southeastern has dropped back-to-back games for just the second time this season.

Taylor Schwaner (.361), Drew Avans (.314), Derrick Mount (.298) and Carson Crites (.280) lead Southeastern at the plate. Schwaner owns a team-best six home runs and Southland Conference-leading 31 RBIs. Avans has a team-high nine stolen bases.

The Lions are hitting .248 as a team, with 30 doubles, seven triples, 14 home runs and rank seventh nationally with 44 stolen bases. Southeastern's pitching staff enters the series with a 4.12 ERA, having fanned 148 batters through 177 innings of work. Opponents are hitting .246 off Lion pitching.

Friday, the Lions will send junior right-hander Mac Sceroler (4-0, 2.03) to the mound opposite HBU senior righty Addison Russ (0-2, 2.20).

Sophomore right-hander Corey Gaconi (2-0, 2.60) gets the starting nod Saturday at 1 p.m. versus Husky senior left-hander Christian Thams (2-1, 3.64).

HBU is slated to start sophomore right-hander Jace Cambell (3-2, 2.59) in Sunday's 2 p.m. series finale against Lion junior righty Kade Granier (1-2, 5.92).

Zane Otten (.386), Spencer Halloran (.351) and Jake Pulcheon (.315) lead the Huskies at the plate. Halloran has a team-best three home runs and 17 RBIs. Otten has swiped a team-high five bags.

HBU is hitting .265 as a team, with 30 doubles, seven triples, nine home runs and 10 stolen bases. The Huskies' pitching staff enters the series with a 3.68 ERA, having fanned 122 batters through 166.1 innings of work. Opponents are hitting .263 off Lion pitching.

Since defeating Kansas, 4-2, in non-conference action, the Huskies have dropped six straight games.

Southeastern returns home Wednesday to host No. 10-ranked UL Lafayette at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. The teams will resume a suspended game at 5 p.m. prior to the contest already scheduled for that evening.

Rained out on Opening Night, Southeastern and the Ragin' Cajuns rescheduled the game for the following Monday, but rain affected the schedule once again.

Suspended in the bottom of the 11th inning, tied 4-4, play will resume at 5 p.m. Wednesday with two outs, Taylor Schwaner running at first base and Drew Avans at the plate.

The contest originally scheduled for March 29 will follow, at least 30 minutes later, beginning no earlier than 6 p.m.

A single ticket, for the March 29 game, will allow admittance to both the resumption and originally scheduled contest. The stadium will not be cleared between games. Tickets dated February 17 or February 20 will be invalid.

General Admission tickets for each Lion home game are $9 for adults and $6 for children (ages 3-12). Tax is included in the price of admission. Southeastern students are admitted free with a valid university ID card.

Students and campus organizations can earn points toward their Lion Up Loyalty account at any home game by checking in on the mobile app while in attendance.
