LAKE CHARLES, La. – A week before preseason practice opens, members of the Southeastern Louisiana football program will represent the Lions at the Southland Conference Football Media Day on Wednesday at the L'Auberge Casino Resort in Lake Charles.
Representing the Lions will be head coach
Ron Roberts, senior fullback
Juwaan Rogers and senior linebacker
Tre' Bennett.
Roberts is entering his fifth season at the helm of the Southeastern program, having led the Lions to a 29-20 career record. The 2013 Southland Conference Coach of the Year led SLU to back-to-back conference championships and the first two playoff appearances in school history.
Rogers, a native of Amite, Louisiana, will be returning after missing 2015 with an injury. One of the leaders of a young Southeastern roster, Rogers and senior
Rasheed Harrell, who also missed all of last season, are expected to provide a huge boost for the Southeastern rushing attack.
Bennett, who hails from Westpoint, Mississippi, will be looked upon as one of the veterans on a Lion defense that will feature a blend of incoming talent and proven veterans. In his first season in Hammond out of Holmes (Miss.) Community College, Bennett was an all-conference selection after leading the team with three forced fumbles to go with 45 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and a fumble return for a touchdown.
Roberts, Rogers and Bennett will meet with the local media at 10:55 a.m., which will be streamed live on
www.southland.org/watch. Rogers and Bennett will also participate in the Southland Conference's Facebook Live broadcast at 1:45 p.m. on facebook.com/southlandconference. A two-hour special featuring all 11 Southland football programs will air at 7 p.m. on ESPN3.
