HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University football team will begin the road portion of its 2025 Southland Conference schedule Saturday, traveling to McNeese for a 6 p.m. contest in Navarre Stadium.
The contest between the Lions (3-2, 1-0 SLC) and the host Cowboys (1-4, 0-1 SLC) will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM and The Boss 97.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM).
Southeastern opened Southland Conference play with a 45-31 victory over UTRGV last Saturday. SLU jumped out to a 21-0 lead and led 42-17 after three quarters, racking up 540 total yards on the way to handing the Vaqueros their first-ever loss.
SLU enters its Southland Conference road opener averaging 31.2 points and 388.8 yards per contest. The Lions have been balanced through the season's first five games, averaging 208.6 passing and 180.2 rushing yards per contest.
Carson Camp (55-for-85, 659 yards, 6 TD, 2 INT) and
Kyle Lowe (31-for-45, 384 yards, 4 TD, 1 INT) have shared quarterback duties for the Lions.
Jaylon Domingeaux has been Camp and Lowe's top target in the passing game, leading SLU with 19 catches for 275 yards and four touchdowns.
SLU's veteran offensive line has cleared the way for a quartet of effective runners. Lowe leads the team with 251 yards and four touchdowns, while
Calvin Smith Jr. (175 yards),
Jaedon Henry (164 yards, 3 TD) and
Deantre Jackson (125 yards, 1 TD) have contributed to the ground attack.
Opponents are averaging 27.6 points and 360.6 yards per game versus the Southeastern defense.
KK Reno leads SLU with 43 tackles, while
Kaleb Proctor paces the Southland Conference with six tackles for loss and four sacks.
Khamron Ford,
Shakespeare Louis,
Blayne Delahoussaye and
Ian Conerly-Goodly have all intercepted passes this season for SLU, while Reno and
Khalid Moore each have fumble recoveries.
Zach Johnson leads Southeastern with six pass breakups.
McNeese will be looking to snap a four-game losing streak when SLU visits Saturday. The Cowboys opened Southland Conference play with a 34-17 loss at Stephen F. Austin last Saturday.
McNeese averages 25.8 points and 396.2 yards per contest through five games. Jake Strong (89-for-154, 1,101 yards, 7 TD, 4 INT) has led the offense with Tre'Vonte Citizen leading the rushing attack with 304 yards and three scores.
Opponents are averaging 33.4 points and 399.4 yards per game versus the Cowboy defense. Shoes Brinkley leads McNeese with 41 tackles, while Phillip Bradford has a team-high six tackles for loss.
Saturday will be the 51
st all-time meeting between Southeastern and McNeese with the all-time series between the in-state foes tied, 25-25. SLU has won the last five meetings with four of those games during the streak decided by five points or less.
Saturday's game will send Southeastern into its bye week. The Lions will next return to action Oct. 18, hosting Northwestern State for the 4 p.m. Homecoming contest in Strawberry Stadium. The game versus the Demons will be televised on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Southeastern Sports Radio Network (Kajun 107.1 FM, The Highway 104.7 FM, The Boss 97.7 FM/WFPR 1400 AM).
