Southeastern Attempts to Extend Southland Unbeaten Start

Lions (7-3, 3-0 SLC) travel to UIW on Friday, AMCC on Saturday

HAMMOND – The streaking Southeastern Louisiana women's tennis team will be back in action this weekend, hitting the road for a pair of Southland Conference matches in Texas.
 
Southeastern (7-3, 3-0 Southland) heads on the trip riding a four-match winning streak. The trip starts with a 12 p.m. match on Friday at Incarnate Word (2-9, 0-2 Southland). On Saturday, SLU heads to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (10-0, 1-0 Southland) for a 12 p.m. league contest.
 
The Lions extended its winning streak to four matches on Monday, defeating Southern, 4-0. Senior Renee Villarreal, sophomore Dany Raygadas and sophomore Lucia Bustamante all won in singles matches to lead SLU past the Lady Jaguars.
 
Raygadas (7-3, 2-1 Southland) leads the team in singles victories, playing predominantly at the No. 3 position. Villarreal (6-2, 3-0 Southland) carries a four-match singles win streak on the No. 1 court into the trip. The Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico native is 61-8 in singles play as a Lion and currently ranks eighth on the school's career victories list.
 
Bustamante (4-5, 1-2 Southland), sophomore Dalina Dahlmans (4-4, 1-2 Southland), sophomore Ceci Mercier (3-6, 1-2 Southland) and sophomore Madina Vorotnikova (3-3, 2-1 Southland) round out the singles lineup for Southeastern.
 
Dahlmans and Villarreal (7-1, 3-0 Southland) are the team's best doubles team and has a current four-match win streak on the No. 1 court. Bustamante and Mercier (6-2, 2-1 Southland) have been effective on No. 2, as has the No. 3 team of Raygadas and junior Margaux Kaltenbacher (5-5, 2-1 Southland).
 
UIW hosts the Lions on Friday looking for its first Southland Conference victory of the spring. Junior Sarah Savedra and sophomore Taryn Strahl share the team lead with four singles victories, while the Cardinal duo also has teamed for a team-high four doubles victories.
 
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi enter Saturday's match on a 10-match winning streak to open the spring. The Islanders have lost only three singles matches and five doubles matches through the first 10 matches.
 
Following this week's matches, Southeastern will return home next Thursday to host Abilene Christian at 2 p.m. at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
