HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women's tennis team will compete in this week's Southland Conference Women's Tennis Championships, which run Tuesday through Friday on the Nicholls campus in Thibodaux, Louisiana.
 
Southeastern (13-8) is the seventh seed and will open up the tournament with a 2 p.m. first round match versus No. 10 seed New Orleans (5-11) Tuesday. The winner of the SLU-UNO showdown will advance to face No. 2 seed SFA (14-6) Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
 
Thursday's semifinals are set for 6 p.m. with Friday's championship match scheduled for 5 p.m.
 
The Lions are led in singles play by Aitana Darder (13-5) and Panatchakorn Suanarsa (13-7), who share the team lead in singles victories this spring. Leana Gomez (11-9) and Taisia Bolsova (10-9) also carry winning singles marks into the postseason.
 
Southeastern is 9-0 this season when it wins the doubles point. Darder and Gomez have a team-high 10-5 record on the No. 2 court.
 
The doubles point decided Southeastern's regular season meeting with the Privateers. SLU won on courts 1 and 3 in doubles play, then Gomez, Suanarsa and Darder in a 4-3 Lion victory April 3 in Hammond.
 
The winner of the SLC Tournament will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with the field being announced April 28 at 4 p.m. on NCAA.com. Southeastern will be looking for its fourth trip to the NCAA Championships.
