BATON ROUGE, La. – Southeastern Louisiana got the strong finish Lions head coach
Jake Narro wanted at the LSU David Toms Intercollegiate Sunday at the University Club.
Southeastern climbed three spots in the final round after shooting a 15-over-par 303 to finish eighth at 54-over 918 overall.
"We had a good second and third round," Narro said. "We're still fighting our old bugaboo a little but in putting all three days together, but it does say a lot about the guys. They keep plugging."
Host LSU capped off the wire-to-wire win with a 6-under 282, finishing at 11-under 853. North Texas was second at 24-over 888 and was followed by McNeese (891), South Alabama (897), Louisiana Tech (914), Louisiana-Lafayette (914) and ULM (916).
Senior
James Anstiss finished off his best tournament of the fall, shooting a 1-over 73 to climb nine spots into a three-way tie for 13
th at 7-over 223. Anstiss, who teed off on No. 11 to start the round, had five birdies on the day, at the par-3 13th, par-5 17
th, the par 4 first and second and the par-5 sixth.
"He needed that," Narro said. "Against a tough course and good field, that's good."
Senior
Paul Obermann also made a big move in the final round, jumping 13 spots into a five-way tie for 26
th at 12-over 228 following a 2-over 74. Obermann birdied the 13
th, 17
th and par-4 18
th before closing the round with an eagle at the par-5 11
th. The eagle was the eighth of his career, tying him with
Lawrence Allan (2013-16) and Cedric Soto (2008-11) for fifth on the Lions' career list.
Sophomore
Joris Etlin shot a 5-over 77 to finish in a seven-way tie for 31
st at 13-over 229.
Sophomore
William Meyers tied for 55
th at 22-over 238 with a final-round 7-over 79. And junior
Wyatt Ott, competing as an individual, took 76
th at 43-over 259 with a 12-over 84.
Four LSU golfers – Brandon Pierce, Eric Ricard Luis Gagne and Sam Burns – shared medalist honors at 1-under 215.
Southeastern will next be in action at the ULM Duck Commander Intercollegiate in El Dorado, Ark. Oct. 30 through Nov. 1.
