Southeastern Places Four on All-Louisiana Teams

Miller, Graves, Eugene, Henderson named among state's elite

HAMMOND – Four members of the Southeastern Louisiana football team were selected to the 2015 Louisiana Sports Writers Association College Football teams, which were released by the LSWA on Sunday.

Senior defensive back Harlan Miller highlighted the SLU contingent, representing the Lions on the first team. Senior offensive lineman Joe Graves and senior defensive back Micah Eugene were second team choices, while senior defensive lineman Ashton Henderson was an honorable mention choice.

Miller, a Kentwood, Louisiana native who will compete in the Senior Bowl later this month, was named All-Louisiana for the third straight season to add to his growing list of postseason accolades. The first player in school history to be named first team All-Southland Conference three times, Miller was named FCS All-America by both the Sports Network and Associated Press last month.

Miller capped a remarkable Southeastern career by ranking among the Southland leaders with a team-high four interceptions and 10 pass breakups to go with his 49 tackles. In his four seasons in Hammond, Miller recorded 11 interceptions – good for fourth in school history.

Miller's senior defensive backfield mate Eugene earned his first All-Louisiana nod. The two-time All-Southland Conference selection from Lafayette, Louisiana was second on the team with 68 tackles to go with an interception and five pass breakups.

Graves was the only representative of the Lion offense on the All-Louisiana squad. The Covington, Louisiana native started all 11 games at center and was named to the All-Southland Conference for the second straight season.

Rounding out the All-Louisiana SLU contingent was Henderson, who also earned All-Southland Conference accolades at the end of the regular season. The Tulsa, Oklahoma native was the Lions' top run stopper in 2014, finishing with 43 tackles and seven tackles for loss. Henderson provided the biggest highlight of the season in the Lions' 28-17 win over Florida Tech, returning a fumble 45 yards for a touchdown and receiving the inaugural Piesman Award, presented by SB Nation for the most outstanding play by a collegiate lineman.

LSU sophomore running back Leonard Fournette was named Louisiana Offensive Player of the Year, while McNeese State senior defensive back Wallace Scott was selected the state's Defensive Player of the Year. Louisiana Tech senior quarterback Jeff Driskel (Newcomer of the Year), LSU defensive lineman Arden Key (Freshman of the Year) and McNeese State head coach Matt Viator (Coach of the Year) claimed the remaining individual honors.

The teams were selected by a panel of LSWA members based on nomination supplied by the football sports information directors of the various schools in the state. SID's could not vote for their players, but other LSWA voters could cast votes for anyone on the ballot.
