SLU Hosts SFA, NSU to Close Home Schedule

Lions host Ladyjacks on Friday, Lady Demons on Saturday; First serve at 11 a.m.

HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana women's tennis team will close out its 2014-15 home schedule this week, hosting two of the top teams in the Southland Conference at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
 
SLU (10-4, 3-3 Southland) welcomes Stephen F. Austin (10-5, 4-0 Southland) on Friday, before Northwestern State (8-7, 4-1 Southland) comes to town on Saturday. First serve for both matches is set for 11 a.m. The Lions were originally scheduled to host Alcorn State on Saturday at 5 p.m., but the match has been cancelled.
 
Southeastern comes into the week's matches on a two-match win streak. On Monday, the Lions defeated Jackson State, 5-2, before blanking Southern on Wednesday in Baton Rouge.
 
Southeastern is 54-24 in singles play this spring, led by junior Renee Villarreal (13-0, 6-0 Southland). The Lions' No. 1 singles player is 51-4 in her SLU career and is tied with former Lion Audrey Chelini for 10th place on the school's singles career list.
 
Villarreal is one of five SLU players to boast a winning singles record. Freshmen Madina Vorotnikova (10-2, 5-1 Southland), Dany Raygadas (10-3, 4-2 Southland), Lucia Bustamante (8-4, 3-3 Southland) and Natalie Duran (3-0) have been effective in singles play.
 
In doubles action, seven Southeastern teams have combined for a 15-14 record this spring. Villarreal and freshman Anna Bryukhova are 4-2 as a team, while Raygadas has paired with both Bustamante and sophomore Margaux Kaltenbacher for 3-2 records.
 
SFA is led in singles play by junior Dhanielly Quevedo (8-3), freshman Vivienne Kulicke (8-4) and senior Malena Gordo (7-2). Kulicke and junior Valeria Terentyeva is the team's top doubles pairing, maintaining an 8-5 record.
 
Northwestern State's top singles player is junior Natalya Krutova, who has an 11-4 singles mark. Krutova and senior Tatiana Larina have teamed for a team-best 10-1 mark at No. 1 doubles.
 
Following this week's action, Southeastern will head to Nashville, Tennessee for a 2 p.m. match on Tuesday at Lipscomb.
