Austin, Texas/San Marcos, Texas – Several members of the Southeastern Louisiana University track and field teams competed in two meets on Thursday: the Texas Relays, hosted by the University of Texas; and the Bobcat Invitational, hosted by Texas State.
In Austin, junior
Jonathan Kinchen placed second in the men's hammer throw. The Ponchatoula native made an impression at the prestigious Texas Relays, tossing for a distance of 211 feet, ten inches. "Jon got even today," said assistant coach
Lucais MacKay. "After not performing his best here last year, he had four throws over 63 meters and tied his personal best."
Junior
Alex Young came in 14
th in the same event, with a distance of 188 feet, nine inches.
In his first trip to the Texas Relays,
Collin Rowland took sixth place in the men's javelin event. On his third attempt, the junior threw for a distance of 203 feet, four inches; finishing just behind Morgan State senior Keith Davis.

Christian Chapman competed in the preliminary rounds of the 400-meter hurdles, placing 71
st (56.48)
Meanwhile in San Marcos,
Misha Frazier shattered yet another school record. In the women's discus throw, the junior tossed for a sixth place mark of 157 feet, 5.3 inches. "Misha is coming into her own in the discus. She'll be a national qualifier with the mark of 47.99 meters." The record, previously held by Fayola Wilson, was set in 2006.
In the men's discus event,
Brett Olsen placed fifth. The senior tossed for a lifetime best distance of 184 feet, 8.9 inches.
"The Southeastern throwers made an impact on their first day here in Texas," MacKay said. "We are going to hope to continue that momentum."
The small group of Lions and Lady Lions will continue competition tomorrow at both the Texas Relays and the Bobcat Invitational.
