HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana women's tennis team will close out its four-match home stand on Monday, when it hosts Southland Conference foe Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 1 p.m. at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
The Lions (8-2, 3-1 Southland) have won three matches in a row heading into Monday's match. On Saturday, SLU defeated Incarnate Word to remain undefeated against conference opponents at home.
Southeastern is led by junior
Renee Villarreal, who is 10-0 overall at the No. 1 singles position. At the bottom of the draw, freshmen
Dany Raygadas (No. 5) and
Madina Vorotnikova (No. 6) are both undefeated in conference singles matches, boasting matching 8-1 singles records and seven-match singles win streaks.
Freshman
Lucia Bustamante (8-2, 3-1 Southland) has also been effective in singles play for the Lions. At No. 4, Southeastern sophomore
Margaux Kaltenbacher (5-4, 2-2 Southland) has won her last three singles matches.
SLU head coach
Jason Hayes has made some recent changes to the doubles lineup. At No. 1, Villarreal and Bustamante are 2-0, as is the team of Raygadas and Kalenbacher at No. 2. In the win over UIW, Vorotnikova and freshman
Natalie Duran made their debut as a team with an 8-2 victory at No. 3.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (6-6, 0-2 Southland) is led in singles play by Maider Martin, who has a team-best 8-3 singles mark. In doubles play, the team of Jelena Dzinic and Chelsea Horan are 6-4 as a team, including 2-0 in Southland Conference play.
Following Monday's match, Southeastern will head to Abilene, Texas to take on Abilene Christian on Friday at 12 p.m.
