Lake Charles – The Southeastern Louisiana track and field teams claimed a 4
th place finish at the Cowboy Relays "Bob Hayes Louisiana Challenge" on Saturday.
Hosted by McNeese State University, this meet featured several in-state competitors, such as UL-Lafayette, UL-Monroe, and Nicholls State. Southeastern Louisiana scored a combined 148 points in the 12-team meet, edging Southland Conference foe Northwestern State by two points (146).
Highlighting Southeastern's performances was junior
Misha Frazier, who set a new outdoor school record in the women's hammer throw with a first-place finish. Frazier surpassed the old mark of 191 feet, six inches (set by Mikaela Johansson in 2007) with a toss of 196 feet, 1.5 inches.
"Misha had an outstanding day with three lifetime best performances," said assistant coach Lucias MacKay. "Setting a new school record in the hammer, as well as setting a lifetime best in the discus." Frazier placed 4
th in the discus, earning five points (148' 2.25").
On the men's side, sophomore
DJ Woodard earned two points with an 8
th place finish in the men's 400-meter hurdles (57.08), with
Christian Chapman finishing close behind in 9
th (57.70, 1 point). The men's 4x400-meter relay team earned five points for the Lions with a 5
th place finish (3:20.55). In the men's triple jump, freshman
Dillon Brumfield earned a point for the Lions with an 8
th place finish (14 m).
In the men's high jump, junior
Kadarius Williams placed third. The East Ascension High School product recorded a mark of six feet, 6.75 inches. Junior
Clarence Robinson also earned points in that event, with a 5
th place mark of six feet, 4.75 inches.
The men's 4x100-meter relay team claimed the event with a combined time of 41.21, earning 10 points. Another first place finish was earned by the men's 1600-meter sprint medley relay team, combining for a time of 3:25.05 (10 points). Senior
Derek Hampton placed fourth in the javelin, earning 5 points (192' feet, 1.5 inches).
Junior thrower
Jimmy LeBlanc came in 5
th in the men's shot put (48 feet, 10.75 inches), and 6
th in the men's discus event (151 feet, 4.75 inches). The junior also placed third in the hammer throw (180 feet,
5.25 inches), earning a total of fifteen points for Southeastern.
Jonathan Kinchen placed 4
th in the men's discus event (167 feet, 1.75 inches; 8 points). The junior also had a big day in the men's hammer. "Jon threw a lifetime best in the hammer today," said MacKay. The Ponchatoula native recorded a distance of 211 feet, 10.75 inches.
For the Lady Lions, junior Nakiya Smith placed 5
th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.10. In the 3000-meters, placed third with a time of 10:56.09.
Charlyn Miller came in 5
th in the 100-meter hurdles (14.54), while the 4x100 meter relay team came in 5
th (47.27).
In the women's pole vault, junior
Katelyn Whitekiller placed fifth with a mark of 11 feet, 5.75 inches. Junior
Shaniqua Knowles placed 3
rd in the triple jump (38'7.75"), while senior
Amber Darville placed 4
th in the hammer throw with a lifetime best (165' 0.50").
Southeastern will return to action this weekend at the Alabama Relays in Tuscaloosa.
