Box Score LAKE CHARLES, La. – Southeastern Louisiana sent 13 batters to the plate Saturday in a seven-run third inning on its way to picking up a 13-3, run-rule victory over McNeese State in Southland Conference play at Cowboy Diamond.
With the victory, Southeastern (31-21, 16-10 Southland) tied McNeese (27-23, 16-10 Southland) for fifth in the conference standings.
Leading 1-0, the Lions broke open the game with their third-inning performance.
Jameson Fisher reached on an error by the first baseman to open the inning and moved to second base on
Andrew Godbold's single up the middle. After
Sam Roberson was hit by a pitch to load the bases,
Brett Hoffman ripped an RBI single to right field. Hoffman's hit landed on the warning track, falling just a few feet shy of leaving the park.
Following
Daniel Midyett's RBI sacrifice fly,
Kennon Menard reached first on a swinging bunt to load the bases once again.
Kyle Cedotal singled to right, driving in Roberson, and
Jacob Williams hit an RBI sacrifice fly to give the Lions a 5-0 lead.
Jacob Seward was hit by a pitch to load the bases for a third time in the inning. It was the fourth batter hit by Cowboy starting pitcher Michael Clemens and the final batter he would face. Fisher greeted reliever Lance Sefcik with a two-run double to right-center. After Godbold was hit by a pitch, Roberson drew a bases-loaded walk to drive in Seward with the final run of the inning.
Southeastern, which posted 15 hits, scored runs in the first, third, fifth and seventh innings. It was the eighth straight game in which the Lions have recorded double-digit hits.
Hoffman picked up a career-high four hits (4-for-5) and tied a career best with four RBIs. Midyett followed up his four-hit performance in the series opener with three more hits Saturday. Godbold (2-for-4) and Menard (2-for-3) also recorded multi-hit games. Fisher drove in three runs and Roberson finished with a pair of RBIs.
Andro Cutura (9-2) earned the win for the Lions, tossing four innings, and
Sean Kennel earned his first save of the season after working the final three. Clemens (4-3) was saddled with the loss, allowing eight runs (four earned) in 2.2 innings pitched.
Sophomore right-hander Bryce Kingsley (4-3, 5.89) gains the Sunday start for the Cowboys and will oppose Southeastern sophomore left-hander
Kyle Cedotal (3-2, 1.36).
