Lions Erase Early Deficit For Series-Opening Victory

Southeastern send 11 batters to plate in six-run fifth inning

Box Score

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Southeastern Louisiana erased an early 3-0 deficit Thursday at Maestri Field at First NBC Ballpark to post a 10-3 Southland Conference victory over the University of New Orleans.

Down one, Southeastern (25-13, 10-6) exploded for six runs in the fifth to grab the lead over UNO (10-24, 2-14 Southland). The Lions sent 11 men to the plate, producing seven hits.

Jacob Williams singled up the middle to lead off the fifth, but was erased on Jacob Seward's fielder's choice bunt. Seward stole second base and then moved to third on Sam Roberson's infield single. Jameson Fisher doubled into left-center to drive in Seward with the tying run.

Andrew Godbold drew a walk to load the bases for designated hitter Daniel Midyett. The sophomore ripped a single through the right side to plate Roberson with the go-ahead run. Brett Hoffman followed with a two-run double to left-center, chasing UNO starting pitcher Alex Smith (1-6) from the contest.

Kennon Menard greeted reliever Raymond Winter with a single through the left side, driving in Midyett. Following a fly out, Williams produced his second single of the inning to drive in Hoffman with the final run of the inning.

Godbold knocked his fourth home run of the season, a solo shot to left, with one out in the eighth and the Lions added a run in the ninth to complete the scoring.

Sean Kennel (4-2) earned the win in relief of starting pitcher Kyle Keller, working the final 4.1 innings without allowing a run. Smith was tagged with the loss for UNO.
