Lions, Houston Baptist Face Busy Weekend At The Pat

Saturday's game is Military Appreciation Day

HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana welcomes Southland Conference-newcomer Houston Baptist to Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field this weekend for a three-game baseball series. Game times for Southeastern's (15-9, 4-2 Southland) conference series with the Huskies (12-9, 3-3 Southland) are scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.

The series opener is a $5 Friday at the ballpark. All general admission tickets are $5 and a concession stand special will also be available for $5 during the game.

Saturday is Southeastern's Military Appreciation Day. Military members, and one guest, will be given free general admission tickets with proper identification. To obtain a ticket, members must present their military ID at the ticket booth. Baseball-themed bingo is also available at Saturday's game.

Sunday's 1 p.m. series finale is Academy Family Sunday in the Park. Roomie's Kid Zone, sponsored by Academy Sports and Outdoors, will be open down the left-field line featuring a bounce house and other family-friendly activities (weather pending). Kid's are welcome to join the Lions on the field for the national anthem Sunday and to run the bases after the game.

Fans will also have a chance Sunday to enjoy the Raising Cane's Challenge. If the Lions score five or more runs in the game, fans presenting their ticket stub (or student coupon), and purchasing a combo at a participating Raising Cane's, will receive a free combo of equal or lesser value (through the following day).

All three games can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU 90.9 FM, online and either the KSLU or TuneIn Radio smartphone apps. Fans can keep up with the entire series through live statistics or by following SLUathletics on Twitter. Streaming video is available on LionVision, Southeastern's subscription-based video stream. Links for tickets, audio, stats and video are available on the baseball schedule page at www.LionSports.net.

After having its five-game winning streak snapped this past Sunday, Southeastern Louisiana bounced back with a 3-2 win Tuesday at home over Jackson State. Jameson Fisher, Andrew Godbold and Sam Roberson all had multi-hit games, with Godbold extending his hitting streak to 12-consecutive games.

Fisher (.375), Godbold (.348), Roberson (.342), Daniel Midyett (.310) and Jacob Williams (.302) lead Southeastern at the plate. Brett Hoffman, who owns a team-high eight doubles, is tied with Godbold for the team lead in RBIs with 18. Fisher has driven in 17.

The Lions are hitting .279 as team and have been successful on 43-of-65 stolen base attempts. Southeastern's pitching staff has compiled a 2.72 ERA, third-lowest in the Southland, fanning 178 batters in 215 innings pitched.

Junior right-hander Andro Cutura (3-1, 2.23) earns the series opening start for the Lions, drawing junior righty Taylor Wright (2-3, 4.80) for the Huskies. Cutura entered the week 15th nationally with 45 strikeouts.

Saturday the Lions will send sophomore right-hander Tate Scioneaux (5-0, 1.66), eighth nationally in victories, to the mound against HBU right-hander Ryan Lower (3-1, 2.90). Scioneaux is one of just 12 pitchers at the Division I level to have turned in quality starts in each of their first six outings this season. A quality start is defined as at least six innings allowing three or fewer runs.

Junior right-hander Kyle Keller (2-1, 2.73) draws the starting nod for Southeastern in Sunday's series finale opposite Huskie junior righty Curtis Jones (1-1, 2.13).

Josh Martinez (.329), Jones (.326), Samm Wiggins (.321), Bradley Brown (.306) and Jordan McCoy (.304) lead HBU at the plate. Brown, Martinez and Zach Nehrir are tied for the team lead with five doubles. Brown also leads the team in home runs, with two, and RBIs (12).

The Huskies are hitting .294 as a team and have been successful on 17-of-23 stolen base attempts. HBU's pitching staff has compiled a 3.53 ERA and fanned 128 batters in 191 innings pitched.

After dropping the opening game of their last Southland series to the University of New Orleans, the Huskies have won three-consecutive contests. HBU swept a Saturday doubleheader from UNO and then defeated Texas Southern this past Tuesday, 3-1.
