Lions Bounce Back With 3-2 Win Over Jackson State

Southeastern has won six of last seven

Box Score

HAMMOND, La. – After having its five-game winning streak snapped this past Sunday, Southeastern Louisiana bounced back with a 3-2 win Tuesday over Jackson State at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

Southeastern (15-9) scored in the bottom of the first to take the lead. Back-to-back singles by Jacob Williams and Sam Roberson opened the inning. With one out, Andrew Godbold extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a single to right field to load the bases. Designated hitter Daniel Midyett followed with a sacrifice fly to left-center, allowing Williams to score from third.

The Tigers (17-10) answered immediately, pushing across a run in the second to tie the game. First baseman Tilur Smith doubled down the left-field line, taking third when the ball was misplayed. He scored one batter later when designated hitter Dylan Parker lofted a sacrifice fly to center.

Southeastern took back the lead for good in the third. Roberson doubled down the right-field line to lead off the inning, moved to third on Jameson Fisher's grounder to second and scored on Godbold's single to left.

The Lions scored the eventual winning run in the fifth. With one out, Roberson reached on an error by Jackson State's third baseman and then stole second. He came home to score moments late on Fisher's single to left.

Jackson State cut the Lion lead to one with a run in the seventh.

Sean Kennel (3-2) earned the win for the Lions and Mason Klotz picked up his third save, retiring the side in order in the ninth. Jackson State starter Christopher Wingard (2-1) was saddled with the loss. Kyle Cedotal, Gage Pickett and Dylan Hills also saw time on the mound for the Lions.

Southeastern, which has won six of its last seven games, returns to action against Southland Conference-newcomer Houston Baptist, Friday through Sunday, in three-game series.
