Two-Run Ninth Propels Lions To Conference Win

Southeastern maintains share of first place in Southland

Box Score

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana scored two runs in the ninth inning Saturday to defeat Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 4-2, in a Southland Conference contest at Chapman Field.

The Lions broke open a scoreless game in the seventh inning, using four-consecutive singles and an error by the AMCC shortstop to take a 2-0 lead.

Andrew Godbold, Sam Roberson, Brett Hoffman and Daniel Midyett all singled to start the inning, putting the first run on the scoreboard. Jacob Seward hit a grounder that the shortstop mishandled, allowing Roberson to cross with the second run.

The Islanders answered with a pair of runs in the eighth to tie the game, 2-2. Kyle Danford knocked a two-out single and moved to third when the ball was misplayed in left field. Tyler Ware jumped on the next offering from Lion starting pitcher Tate Scioneaux (5-0), hitting a 2-run home run to right.

Southeastern responded immediately. Seward and Kennon Menard both reach on one-out, infield singles in the ninth. Following a flyout, Jacob Williams singled to center to drive in Seward for the lead. Menard and Williams both moved up on the throw. After an intentional walk to Jameson Fisher AMCC brought in Jacob Dorris to face Godbold, but the sidearming right-hander hit the Lion right fielder with a pitch to force in the final run of the game.

Godbold extended his hitting streak to 10 games, producing a pair of key hits late in the game. Roberson and Midyett also produced two-hit games, while Seward finished the night 3-for-4 at the plate. Scioneaux earned the win and Dylan Hills picked up his first save of the season. Islander reliever Kevin Landgrebe (2-2) was tagged with the loss.

Junior right-hander Kyle Keller (2-0, 2.83) draws the starting nod for Southeastern in Sunday's 1 p.m. series finale opposite Islander freshman righty Devin Skapura (2-2, 2.79).
