FRISCO, Texas – Three Southeastern Louisiana University track & field athletes were named to the Southland Conference 2012-13 All-Academic Cross Country and Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field teams announced Thursday by the league office.

Lady Lions Kierra Crews and Brittany Pfantz, as well as male pole vaulter Vance Law, represent Southeastern on the squad.

Crews, a sophomore from Warren, Mich. (Warren H.S.), carries a 4.00 GPA in Nursing. She established personal bests during the indoor season in both the 55-meter (7.78 seconds) and 60-meter dash (8.48), as well as the 60-meter hurdles (9.16), and the 100-meter hurdles (14.92) in the outdoor season.

Pfantz, a senior from DeRidder, La. (DeRidder H.S.), graduated from Southeastern this past May with a degree in Kinesiology. She carried a 3.95 GPA into her final semester. The Lady Lion's record-holder in the pole vault, Pfantz topped out at 12 feet, 11.5 inches during the outdoor season and 12-01.75 indoors. Pfantz won the pole vault back-to-back weeks at the MC Twilight Invitational and the McNeese SpringTime Classic.

Law, a sophomore from Walker, La. (Walker H.S.), owns a 3.89 GPA in Kinesiology. The pole vaulter topped out at 15-09.00 outdoors and 15-03.00 indoors. Four times during the year he was a member of Southeastern's 4x4 team and ran the 200-meter dash (23.32) at the Louisiana Classics. Law won the male pole vault competition at the McNeese Cowboy Relays.

Lamar graduate student Joe Wade and Nicholls State junior Jamee Springer were named the Southland Conference Outdoor Track & Field Student-Athletes of the Year.

Wade becomes the third male student-athlete in Southland history to claim both the Indoor & Outdoor student-athlete of the year award in same season and first since Chris Cralle of Sam Houston State (2011). The graduate student from Isle of Wight, England (St. Mary's University), claimed the individual title in the 1,500-meter run at the outdoor track & field championship while sporting the best times in the conference during the outdoor season in the 1,500-, 3,000-meter and steeplechase. Wade accumulated a spotless 4.00 grade-point while earning a master's in Kinesiology and Family and Consumer Sciences.

Springer is the first Nicholls student-athlete to earn the award in any sport. The junior from Lloydminster, Alberta (Lloydminster H.S.), became the second-ever Nicholls student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA Championships, capping her season with a 16th-place finish in the javelin at the national championships. Springer won the individual title at the conference championship, becoming the fourth Colonel to win the event in the last seven years. The general studies major with a 3.51 GPA won six individual javelin titles this the season and finished no lower than second in any regular season meet.

The women's all-academic team consists of 31 student-athletes including 15 automatic selections while the men's squad consists of 17 student-athletes including seven automatic selections. Sam Houston State led the conference with a combined 10 student-athletes on the all-academic team while Stephen F. Austin earned seven. Central Arkansas and McNeese collected six apiece while Lamar accumulated five. Oral Roberts, Southeastern Louisiana and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi each notched a trio while Nicholls claimed two spots and Northwestern State earned one.

Eleven student-athletes are making at least their second appearance on their respective teams including SFA's Adam Saloom, who has landed on the men's all-academic team for the fourth time in his career.

The Southland Conference awards committee, which consists of one administrator from each of the 10 member universities, votes for the student-athletes of the year. The student-athlete of the year award is presented to one student-athlete who achieves excellence in both academics and athletics. All nominees shall have earned at least a 3.2 GPA on a 4.0 scale, and demonstrated athletics achievement for a least two years at the nominating institution. All-academic members earned at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, completed at least one full academic year and participated in at least 50 percent of the school's events.
