Southeastern Set to Begin Pelican Relays Friday

SLU's two-day meet in Baton Rouge will begin at 12 p.m.

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University men's and women's track & field teams will return to Baton Rouge, La., to continue the outdoor season. The Lions will compete at Southern University's Pelican Relays at A. W. Mumford Stadium. The two-day meet will start Friday.
 
SLU will travel to Southern University after the Lions split up to start the month of April. Southeastern competed at the Texas Relays, LSU's Battle on the Bayou, and the Southern Miss Invitational last week. At A. W. Mumford Stadium, Friday's field events will begin at 12 p.m. with the men's hammer, followed by track events, beginning at 4 p.m. The women's discus will kick off Saturday at 10 a.m. The women's 4x100-meter relay at 1:30 p.m. will be the first of Saturday's events on the track.
 
In Austin, Texas, Donald Butler, Porter Gibson, Micah Miller, and Gerrit Visser represented Southeastern. Heading into this weekend's meet, Visser's 60.27-meter (197'9") hammer throw from the Andy Thiel Season Opener remains the second-best mark in the Southland Conference. Butler's high jump of 2.10 meters (6'10") from the LSU Opener is sixth in the SLC. Gibson, Miller, and Brown currently hold the sixth, seventh, and eighth-best discus throws in the SLC at 51.39 meters (168'7"), 51.14 meters (167'9"), and 50.36 meters (165'3"), respectively.
 
At the Battle on the Bayou, Onyah Favour competed in the 200-meter and 400-meter dash events. The junior earned the second-best time in the Southland in the 200-meter dash at 23.66, also capturing the third-best SLC mark in the 400-meter event at 52.83.
 
At the Southern Miss Invitational in Hattiesburg, Miss., Josh-Ty Brown notched the fifth-best shot-put throw in the Southland at 17.18 meters (56'4"), posting the best mark of his collegiate career.
 
Following this weekend's meet in Baton Rouge, the Lions will be back in Hammond, Friday, Apr. 17, for the Strawberry Relays at Southeastern Track Complex.
