Lions Face UNO In Season's Final Mid-Week Home Contest

Free food for Southeastern students while it lasts

Senior left-hander Jordan Hymel draws the starting nod in the final home, mid-week contest of the 2013 season
HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team hosts New Orleans, a future Southland Conference member, in its final mid-week, home game of the 2013 season Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

It is a Dinner at the Diamond Night for students, with free food while it lasts, and the game is part of the Spring Greek Challenge.

Fans will have a chance to enjoy the Raising Cane's Challenge. If the Lions score five or more runs, fans presenting their ticket stub (or student coupon), and purchasing a combo at a participating Raising Cane's, will receive a free combo of equal or lesser value (through the following day).

The game can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9), on the internet through the Southeastern athletics website, as well as on the KSLU iPhone and TuneIn Radio apps. Live stats, as well as a live video stream through LionVision (subscription required), will be available. Southeastern (24-13) dropped two of three games in a Southland Conference series at Oral Roberts this past weekend.

Harry Slade (.324), Jameson Fisher (.318) and Ben Hernandez (.306) lead Southeastern at the plate. Jesse Buratt and Fisher lead the team with eight doubles while Fisher and Aaron Haag have clubbed a pair of home runs. Slade leads the team with 27 runs batted in and nine stolen bases.

Senior left-hander Jordan Hymel (4-3, 4.08) draws the starting nod for the Lions opposite  Privateer sophomore right-hander Seth Laigast (0-1, 17.63), a native of Madisonville, La.

Jonathan Coco (.283), Zach Liberto (.275) and Reese Kanter (.270) lead UNO at the plate. Zacary Hawkins, a native of Covington, La., has a team-best 10 doubles and 18 RBIs. Coco, Kanter and Chaz Boyer have each hit a pair of home runs while Boyer has also swiped a team-high 11 bases.

The Privateers (6-31), a Division I-Independent this season, dropped three of four games this past weekend to Georgia State, who entered the weekend leading the nation in batting average (.342), runs (278), doubles (82) and on-base percentage (.429).

UNO is one of four institutions, including Abilene Christian, Houston Baptist and Incarnate Word, joining the Southland effective July 1.

Southeastern returns to action Friday at 6:30 p.m. as the Lions travel to Nacogdoches, Texas, for a Southland Conference series with Stephen F. Austin.
