Southeastern Hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

Lady Lions look to split homestand

HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana volleyball team returns to the University Center court at 2 p.m. Saturday to host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a Southland Conference match.

Southeastern (5-8, 1-4 Southland) dropped a three-set decision Thursday to Sam Houston State in the University Center.

Senior Courtney Donald (3.88 kills per set) is the Lady Lions' top offensive weapon. Second in the conference in kills (per set), she also leads the team with 33 total blocks.

Veronica Turk (2.52 k/set), Tamra Grayson (1.70 k/set), Shelby Devlin (1.35 k/set) and Becky Bekelja (9.04 assists per set) are also major contributors to the Southeastern offensive effort.

Junior libero Megan McMillin ranks fifth in the Southland with an average of 4.50 digs per set. Bekelja (2.31 d/set), Morgan Todd (2.00 d/set), Cherish Krohn (1.91 d/set) and Taylor Buckner (1.69 d/set) lend significant support on the defensive end.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (10-6, 3-2 Southland) defeated Nicholls State Thursday in straight sets for a conference victory.

The Islanders have four players averaging at least a pair of kills in each set. Shannon Hullum (2.87 k/set), Brianna Brink (2.79 k/set), Ivy Baresh (2.45 k/set) and Brooke Alverson (2.16 k/set) lead the way on offense with help from Logen Bourque (9.58 a/set).

Libero Micah Nolan (4.55 d/set) ranks just ahead of McMillin in digs with Baresh (2.98 d/set) and Bourque (2.38 d/set) lending a helping hand. Alverson, a sophomore, is fourth in the conference in blocks (1.10 per set).

The Lady Lions step outside of conference play Wednesday when they travel to Jackson State for a 7 p.m. match.
