Box Score
HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana rallied for two runs in the bottom of the eighth Saturday to tie the game at three apiece, but Central Arkansas scored an unearned run in the top of the tenth inning for a 4-3 win.
UCA (13-15, 7-8 Southland) won the series, winning 8-4 Friday, after Southeastern took the opener in a 5-4 decision.
Ethan Harris reached on a throwing error by Lion shortstop
Ben Hernandez to open the tenth. He moved up to second base on a ground out by Forrestt Allday and took third on a single to right field by Bryan Willson.
Bears' catcher Travis Snider plated Harris, the eventual winning run, with a sacrifice bunt up the first-base line.
Stefan Lopez (0-1) took the loss for the Lions, allowing just the one unearned run, in two innings of work. Reliever Andy Steinmetz (2-2) picked up the win for UCA by retiring all six batters he faced.
The Bears held a 3-0 lead before Southeastern (22-11, 8-7 Southland) scored its first run in the seventh.
Harry Slade doubled off the glove of UCA center fielder Jonathan Davis to lead off the inning.
Jacob Fisher moved Slade to third with a sacrifice bunt. After
Brett Hoffman drew a one-out walk,
Ben Hernandez laid down another sacrifice bunt to drive home Slade. It was the first run the Lions scored off the UCA bullpen in the series (eight innings).
In the eighth,
Michael Rutland singled up the middle to open the inning. Pinch runner
Britt Gautreaux took second on a wild pitch and scored on
Brock Hebert's single to center field.
Hebert took second on the throw home, but the throw was wide and high allowing Hebert to take third on the throwing error.
Jonathan Pace greeted reliever Clint Green with a double to left-center field, allowing Hebert to score easily and tie the game.
The Lions appeared to take the lead on the next batter, but a sacrifice bunt by
Cody Gougler was wiped out by an interference call. After the ball hit Gougler on the way to first, Pace came home to score. The umpiring crew ruled Gougler was running in fair territory and returned Pace to second. He was doubled off second to end the inning when Slade lined out to the shortstop.
Southeastern returns to Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field Wednesday at 6 p.m. against the Alabama Crimson Tide.
