NATCHITOCHES – Colin Bear pitched a seven-inning complete game, allowing four hits and fanning five batters and Northwestern State used a pair of big innings to defeat Southeastern Louisiana, 13-3, on Friday at Brown-Stroud Field.
The regular-season finale for both teams is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday. The game can be heard in the Hammond on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net.
Bear (3-4), who also went 2-for-5 with a RBI, allowed four leadoff singles and a pair of earned runs in helping Northwestern State (22-32, 11-21 SLC) to the win. The Demons erased a 1-0 lead with three runs in the second inning before sending 10 men to the plate in a four-run third.
Nick Hinojos and Justin Martinez each doubled in the second inning off Southeastern starter
Brandon Efferson (8-4) before Chad Northcott and Ray Frias added RBI singles that gave the Demons a 3-1 lead.
The Demons took a 7-1 lead in the third as Bear scored on an error, Hinojos scored on a wild pitch, Northcott added an RBI single and Martinez scored on a fielder's choice by Aaron Munoz.
Southeastern (35-20, 18-14 SLC) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when
Cass Hargis led off with a single, stole second and scored two batters later on a wild pitch.
Brock Hebert added a run for the Lions in the fourth inning when he scored on an error and
Jacob Fisher scored in the fifth on an RBI grounder by
Jonathan Pace.
Munoz went 4-for-4 with a pair of RBI for Northwestern State, which collected 15 hits in the game off five Southeastern pitchers. Hinojos went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Demons while Frias and Northcott had two hits each.
