ARLINGTON, Texas – Preston Beck hit a game-tying two-run single in a three-run sixth inning before adding a solo home run to lead off the eighth to lead UT Arlington to a 4-3 win over Southeastern Louisiana in the final game of a three-game Southland Conference series on Sunday at Clay Gould Ballpark.

Jesse Payne hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the go-ahead run in the sixth as UTA (17-15, 8-7 SLC) erased a 2-0 deficit and avoided a three-game sweep. Southeastern fell to 22-11 overall and 9-6 in the SLC.

Nick Orr led off the sixth inning for UTA with a double to left and moved to third on a single by Ryan Walker. Beck, who went 3-for-4 to help lead a 10-hit attack, then greeted Southeastern reliever Joseph Koon (2-4) with a double inside the right-field line to tie the game at 2-2.

After Brian Nephew moved Beck to third on a sacrifice bunt, Payne lifted a fly ball to center field that allowed Beck to score and give the Mavs their first lead of the day.

Beck provided an insurance run for UTA in the eighth when he hit the first pitch from Koon over the right-field fence for his third home of the season.

Calan Pritchard (2-1) pitched four innings in relief to earn the win of the Mavs, retiring the final 11 batters he faced after Cass Hargis reached on a one-out single in the fourth inning. Adam Boydston pitched the final 0.1 innings to earn his sixth save of the year.

Southeastern broke open a scoreless game in the third inning as it scored twice to take a 2-0 lead. Jacob Fisher reached on a one-out error and moved to second when Brock Hebert reached on a single. Justin Boudreaux followed with a single into left-center field to drive in Fisher before a sacrifice fly by Jonathan Pace scored Hebert.

The Lions rallied in the ninth as Pace led off the frame with a walk and Josh Cryer hit a one-out single. Hargis reached on a fielder's choice that allowed pinch-runner Trey Martin to score, but Boydston fanned Britt Gautreaux to end the game.

Josh Janway pitched five innings for Southeastern, allowing two runs on six hits with five strikeouts. Koon allowed a pair of runs on four hits in two innings before Jason Greeneleaf pitched a scoreless eighth inning with a strikeout.

Southeastern will return to action on Tuesday when it plays host to Southern in a 6 p.m. contest at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. Tickets are available by calling the Southeastern Athletic Ticket Office at (985) 549-5466 or on-line at www.LionSports.net.
