CONWAY, Ark. – Jake Fuller hit a bases clearing double and Jonathan Davis added a two-run single to highlight a nine-run third inning and help Central Arkansas to a 16-5 Southland Conference victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday at Bear Field.
UCA (12-13, 3-6 SLC) sent 13 men to the plate in the third inning and added four runs in the fifth and three in the sixth in claiming its first Southland Conference series of the year. Southeastern fell to 15-9 overall and 5-4 in SLC action.
Southeastern took a 1-0 lead when
Brock Hebert and
Jonathan Pace led off the game with singles before an RBI grounder two batters later by
Jeff Harkensee allowed Hebert to score.
Joseph Koon (2-3) held the Bears hitless through the first two innings before getting into trouble in the third. The Bears collected six hits and took advantage of two Southeastern errors in the third to break the game open.
Jonathan Houston added a two-run single in the fifth inning while Bryan Willson added a two-run double in the sixth.
Dustin Ward (3-2) earned the win for UCA allowing seven hits and an unearned run in five innings of work. Ethan Harris, Zack Dickson and Houston had two hits each to lead UCA, which had 10 hits in the game.
Cass Hargis drove in two runs for Southeastern, which scored four times in the seventh inning. Hebert went 2-for-3 for the Lions while Pace added two hits, including his first inning single that extended his hitting streak to 21 games – one shy of the school record set by Gavin Fingleson in 1999.
Southeastern will return to action on Tuesday when it visits Southern University in a 6 p.m. contest at Lee-Hines Field. The game will be televised live on Cox Sports Television.
