HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana women's soccer team will attempt to continue its unbeaten start to the 2010 season this week, when it hosts in-state opponents Louisiana-Monroe and Louisiana-Lafayette at the Southeastern Soccer Complex.

The Lady Lions (6-0-1) are unbeaten through the season's first seven matches for the first time in school history and are one of 13 Division I teams yet to suffer a loss in 2010. Southeastern will look to continue its historic run on Friday, when ULM (2-6) comes to town for a 4:30 p.m. contest. UL-Lafayette (4-4) visits Hammond on Sunday for a 1 p.m. match.

Last week, Southeastern took home the title at the Gamecock Classic. On Friday, goals by senior Natalie Santana and sophomore Maiya Cooper led the Lady Lions to a 2-1 win over host Jacksonville State. Southeastern fell behind early on Sunday, but used second-half goals by freshman Cambri Prevost and sophomore Lauren Stillians, who was named the tournament's Offensive MVP, to rally for a 2-1 win over Austin Peay.

Southeastern has outscored opponents, 17-3, thus far this season. Santana and Cooper share the team lead with three goals and both rank among the school's top 10 career goal scorers. Stillians, Prevost and sophomore Kerry McWhirter have each scored two goals apiece. Nine different Lady Lions have scored goals this season.

McWhirter has also been the team's top distributor, ranking second in the nation with her Southland Conference-high six assists and third nationally with 0.86 assists per match. Santana is second on the team with three assists and needs two to match the Southland career record of 25 held by Southeastern Athletics Hall of Famer Becca Weingartner. Sophomore Karly Dagys and senior Brittany Prieto each have been credited with two assists.

The Lady Lion defense is ranked 15th nationally with a 0.415 team goals against average. The back line of Prieto, senior Nicole Brannigan, junior Kyle MacIntosh, freshman Shanyce Shaw and junior Lauren Crawford has been dominant through the season's first seven matches.

Junior goalkeeper Lacey Bockhaus leads the Southland Conference with four shutouts and a 0.42 goals against average. Bockhaus needs one more shutout to become the Southland career leader and surpass current standard bearer and former Stephen F. Austin goalkeeper Natascia Michalezki.

Southeastern will be facing a Louisiana-Monroe team looking to snap a four-match losing skid. The Lady Lions will be the fifth Southland Conference team ULM has faced this season. The Warhawks defeated Central Arkansas, but lost to Nicholls, Northwestern State and McNeese State.

Seniors Tiffany Bombard and Samantha Cashman lead the Warhawks with two goals apiece. Freshman Brittany Parker paces the team with two assists apiece. Sophomore Alex Holland has handled all the goalkeeping duties for ULM and heads into the match with a 2.09 goals against average.

Southeastern and former Southland foe ULM will be meeting for the 18th time with the Lady Lions holding a 10-6-1 advantage. Southeastern picked up a 2-0 road victory over the Warhawks last season behind goals from Dagys and former Lady Lion Gloria Burkhart.

Much like Friday's opponent, Louisiana-Lafayette comes to town having played many of Southeastern's Southland rivals. The Ragin' Cajuns defeated McNeese State, Lamar and Nicholls State, while suffering defeats at the hands of Northwestern State and Stephen F. Austin.

Senior Kelli Jestes leads ULL with four goals, while sophomore Cayla Chatman has found the net two times. Senior Courtney Hofland is tops on the team with three assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Amanda Moorefield (1.13 GAA) has handled the majority of the goalkeeping duties for Louisiana-Lafayette.

Southeastern is 4-1-1 all-time versus the Ragin' Cajuns and has won the last two meetings. Last season, Cooper scored two goals in a 2-0 win in Hammond.

Following the week's action, Southeastern will close out its non-conference schedule on Friday, Sept. 24, hosting Grambling at 4:30 p.m. at the Southeastern Soccer Complex.
