HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team returns to action on Tuesday when it plays host to in-state rival Southern University at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. The game, which is Southeastern's final midweek game at home this season, can be heard in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the internet at www.LionSports.net.
Southeastern (30-12), which reached the 30-win mark for a school-record fourth straight year, looks to get back to its winning ways after dropping three of its last four games. The Lions snapped a season-high three-game losing streak on Sunday in an 11-3 win at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi as
Chris Franklin pitched a complete game in his first career start for the Lions.
Jeff Harkensee leads Southeastern at the plate with a .339 average.
Justin Boudreaux is next in hitting at .327 with team-highs in home runs (10) and RBI (49).
Cody Gougler (.319-4-29), freshman
Brock Hebert (.319-2-44) and
Cass Hargis (.309-0-31) are next at the plate for the Lions, who are hitting .294 as a team.
Freshman
Jordan Hymel (6-1, 4.27 ERA) will start on the mound for Southeastern. The southpaw is fourth on the team in innings pitched (46.1) and second behind
Brandon Efferson in wins.
Southern (15-16) lost a pair of games to Jackson State last weekend, losing by scores of 17-15 and 9-7. The Lions claimed the first meeting in the season series between the schools, 8-5, as Hymel pitched five innings in earning the win with Boudreaux and
Josh Cryer belting home runs.
