Santana, Cooper, Bockhaus Earn NSCAA All-Central Region Honors

Lady Lions one of eight teams to have multiple All-Central Region honorees

Southeastern's Natalie Santana, Maiya Cooper and Lacey Bockhaus were named to the All-Central Region team
HAMMOND – After helping Southeastern Louisiana to the Southland Conference regular season title, senior midfielder Natalie Santana, sophomore forward Maiya Cooper and junior goalkeeper Lacey Bockhaus were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Performance Subaru NCAA Division I Women's Soccer All-Central Region Teams, which were announced recently by the NSCAA.

Santana led the Lady Lion contingent as a first team All-Central region selection, while Cooper and Bockhaus were both named to the team as third-team selections. The Southeastern trio represent the first All-Region performers for the program since former Lady Lion Kendra Oney was an honorable mention choice by Soccer Buzz Magazine in 2003.

In all, the Southland Conference placed five student-athletes on the All-Central Region teams, marking the first time in league history that Southland members have placed players on the NSCAA All-Central Region teams. The Lady Lion honorees were joined by Stephen F. Austin sophomore midfielder Kylie Louw (second team) and Texas State senior forward Britney Curry (third team). The Central Region includes the schools from the Big 12, Conference USA, Southland and Southwestern Athletic conference.

“This is a landmark achievement for Southeastern and the Southland Conference,” Southeastern head coach Blake Hornbuckle said. “Natalie, Maiya and Lacey are all very deserving of this honor and we're very proud of their achievement. Their body of work throughout the season encompassed their talents and attributes and how much of an impression and impact each made on their opponents.”

The honor for Santana was a fitting final career achievement for the highly-decorated Cypress, Calif. native. The All-Central Region honor is the latest achievement for Santana, who finished her Lady Lion career having being named to the All-Southland, All-Louisiana and Southland All-Tournament teams three times.

Santana, who posted eight goals and six assists in 2010, finished her Lady Lion career as the Southland's career leader with 26 assists and among the school's career leaders in goals (26, 5th), points (78, 4th), game-winning goals (8, 3rd) and shots (155, 5th).

Cooper was honored after posting the most prolific combined freshman and sophomore seasons in school history. The two-time first team All-Southland and All-Louisiana honoree led Southeastern in goals scored for the second straight season, finishing the 2010 campaign with 11 goals, four assists and 26 points. After two years, the Hawthorne, Calif. native already ranks among the program leaders in goals (25, 6th), points (58, 8th) and game-winning goals (6, 6th).

Much like Cooper, Bockhaus has been named first team All-Southland and All-Louisiana in each of the past two seasons. The San Leandro, Calif. native shared Southland Player of the Year honors with Louw after leading the league with a 0.64 goals against average, nine shutouts and an .873 save percentage. In her three seasons with the Lady Lions, Bockhaus has already surpassed the Southland career record with 30 shutouts.

Southeastern was one of eight schools to place multiple student-athletes on the All-Central Region teams. With three honorees, the Lady Lions joined Oklahoma State (five), Central Florida (five), Texas A&M (four), Texas (3), Memphis (two), Nebraska (two) and Houston (two).
