Jenkins Leads Southeastern to 65-55 Win at Centenary

Lady Lions improve to 7-3 overall

Playing just a few minutes from her home, Southeastern Louisiana senior forward Rashima Jenkins scored 15 points to lead the Lady Lions to a 65-55 win over Centenary in non-conference women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at the Gold Dome.

The second straight victory for Southeastern (7-3) closed out its season-long five-game road swing. Centenary got no closer than nine in the second half and trailed by as many as 22 points, falling to 0-8 overall.

Rashima Jenkins, a Bossier City native, was joined in double figures by junior guard Kelli Jenkins and freshman forward Aja Gibson with 10 points apiece. Senior guard Mary Fountain led the Lady Lions with eight rebounds, but Centenary finished with a 48-39 rebounding edge over the Lady Lions.

Southeastern forced Centenary into 23 turnovers, scoring 14 points off the miscues. Kelli Jenkins led the Lady Lions with four steals, while Rashima Jenkins and Fountain had three steals apiece.

The Ladies were led by Anne Farrell with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Ashley Jackson had a double-double of her own with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Megan Daniel added 11 points, while Ne-Ne Cook had 10 points and a game-high six assists, but committed 12 turnovers.

Southeastern took a 37-25 lead into the break thanks to a balanced offensive effort. Rashima Jenkins led the Lady Lions with eight points, while junior guard Gabrielle George added seven points. Senior center Rachel Mackie and Gibson knocked in six points apiece as eight different Lady Lions scored in the first half.

The Lady Lions also were strong defensively, building a halftime advantage by scoring 10 points off 14 Centenary turnovers. Kelli Jenkins, Rashima Jenkins and Fountain each had two steals in the first half.

Southeastern will return home to face Louisiana-Lafayette on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the University Center. The Lady Lions will celebrate with Holiday Hoops Fest, as gifts from “Roomie” Claus will be given away and fun holiday-themed promotions will be held throughout the game.

In addition, junior guard Jessica Sommers will be the Spotlight Player of the Game and the first 100 fans will receive a trading card featuring Sommers, courtesy of the Southeastern PRIDE. Tuesday's game will be broadcast live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9) and on the Internet at www.LionSports.net.
