Lady Lions Fall to Houston at UH Invitational

Southeastern opens home schedule versus Alcorn State on Tuedsay at 7 p.m.

HOUSTON, Texas – Southeastern Louisiana freshman Alexis Braghini led the Lady Lions with eight kills – including four in a tightly-contested third set – but it was not enough for Southeastern to overcome host Houston, dropping a 25-14, 25-17, 25-22 decision on the final day of the UH Flo Hyman Invitational at the Alumni Center on the Houston campus.

The Lady Lions fell to 0-3 after a challenging opening weekend that saw Southeastern face Houston, Big 12 Conference member Baylor and Big 10 Conference member Indiana. Houston improved to 2-1 with the victory.

After posting negative team hitting percentages in the first two sets, Southeastern was much-improved in the third set behind Braghini and fellow freshman Courtney Donald. Both had multiple kills without an error, as Southeastern hit .171 in the set besting Houston's .086 hitting percentage in the set.

Southeastern took its final lead of the third set, as senior Katie Collins recorded a kill to give the Lady Lions a 20-19 lead. However, Houston rolled off five straight points to take a 24-20 lead.

Southeastern fought off a pair of match points to cut the lead to 24-22. But, Houston's Kinsey Cave posted her match-high 16th kill of the match to give the Lady Cougars the three-set victory.

In addition to Braghini's play, Donald have five kills, Collins added 22 assists and juniorAlex Greer was credited with a team-high nine digs.

The Lady Lions will return to action on Tuesday, opening its 2009 home schedule with a 7 p.m. contest versus Alcorn State at the University Center. Admission to all Southeastern home volleyball matches is free.
